Even Hispanics and Filipinos aren't supposed to use the word "negro"?

We read:
"A civil rights group has chided Dionisia Pacquiao, mother of famed Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, for using the word "Negro" in a public statement. The Color People Advancement Community (CPAC), a small Las Vegas-based ethnic rights group, was reacting to statements made by Mrs. Pacquiao after her son's match against Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand Arena on November 14.

Pacquiao, along with his entourage, had proceeded to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino a few blocks away for a post-fight party and mini-concert. There, Mrs. Pacquiao gave interviews and described her alarm at watching her son fight it out with Cotto for 12 rounds.

Mrs. Pacquiao also thanked all her son's supporters. "Nagpapasalamat ako hindi lang sa mga Pilipino. At pati na rin sa mga Amerikano at mga Negro. (I thank not only the Filipinos, I also thank Americans and Negroes)," she said.

According to reports from the Bandera tabloid and boxing website Philboxing.com, the CPAC in Las Vegas issued a statement asking Mrs. Pacquiao to refrain from using politically incorrect words in public "so as not to inflame emotional outrage" from groups in the United States.

"Negro" was once the proper scientific term for the race concerned but these days the more ponderous geographical term "Sub-Saharan African" is used in scientific writing. That's a bit stupid, though, as there are about 4 million "Sub-Saharan Africans" who are white, mostly in South Africa.

"I thought we weren't supposed to call them colored anymore?"

You're right, and that comes straight from the NAACP! Personally, i prefer to use the term blacks use, niggers. It makes things so much clearer.

In my family when we talk about black people and don't want them to know we're discussing them, we call them "swiss." LOL

For those who don't speak Tagalog, that is exactly how you say it. I would submit it is racist to ask someone to not speak their language. Will the idiocy never end? By the way, isn't that how black is said in Spanish, also?

---Exactly, in fact, "negrito" or "negro" can be a term of endearment in latin countries. The same with "gordo" which translates to "fat" but people don't always use it to refer that.

Actually, the word nigger comes from the old south. It was not intended as a racial slur, but simply a mispronunciation. When southerners said the word negros, it would come out as nigras because of their drawl. Over time, and as the word moved north, going through many different areas of the country and different speaking styles, it became nigger.

Why o'why does the cancer spread. Similar shift towards PC-language has happened in Finland since the start of somali immigration in the early 1990's. The old Finnish word 'neekeri' is now considered impolite in most cases which is ridiculous. It was never a slur but an accurate name for a race. Nowadays we don't really have a good alternative in everyday usage (since most people don't use scientific terminology).

God damn somalis came to tell us how to speak our language and they used English words to prove how racist we are. And local red'n'green folk ate it up! In Sweden they didn't fall for that trap and after a lot of back and forth arguments they decided that 'neger' is not a racist word. Although it is frowned upon by the red'n'green water melons.
