Leftist haters block lawful meeting

Free speech only for those whom Leftists approve of is no free speech at all
"A conference of white supremacist groups from across the nation, scheduled to convene in a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in South Boston Saturday, has been canceled, a Boston "antihate" group said last night.

The event, entitled Patriot Action, organized by the East Coast White Unity group and Volksfront, was to have been held at the VFW hall on Ellery Street at 2 p.m., but hall organizers pulled the plug on the gathering.

The Boston Anti-Racist Coalition, a loosely organized group of activists that was organized around the beginning of the year in response to the scheduled VFW event, claimed credit yesterday for the cancellation, said Ian Curtis, a member of the group...

Billy Roper, who leads the White Revolution, a white nationalist organization based in Arkansas, was scheduled to speak at the meeting. Roper said the event could draw as many as 150 supporters, and he said the meeting will go on, regardless of the cancellation, at an undisclosed location.

Well, the leftist haters didn't use violence, didn't disrupt the meeting, didn't phone in death threats, didn't sue the hall, they simply called whoever runs the VFW hall and pressured them to block the white supremacists.

This is no different than calling country music stations and telling them not to play the Dixie Chicks, an action I supported. Does that make me a hater?

Bobby,

One difference is the Dixie Chicks are profiting from every broadcast of their songs - they didn't pay the radio station to play the songs.

Presumably these guys had a contract with the VFW Hall for venue rental. To cancel the contract SHOULD have cost the VFW Hall more than it obviously did, but maybe the group will learn next time to write in "penalty clauses" that make it economically challenging to cancel the contract.

Unfortunately you guys are missing the point.

This group, however reprehensible, are entitled to the expression of free speech.

The point of the article was to point out how the left spews it's hate, disrupts meetings and so forth but if you do it to them they scream disruption of "free Speech."

They have a right to ask the VFW to revoke the invitation or use of the facility but in the end the White supremacists have a right to speak.

I would personally like to see the two sides duke it out in the arena of ideas. The side with the more compelling idea should win.

Unfortunately as the author pointed out the left never debates ideas they only shout you down and try to silence you.

I want these people to be heard, let the world see them for the morons they are so they are pushed out. If you give them a spotlight like this you will only add to their "mystique" and it will draw other to their cause by claiming the "non-white" is suppressing the "white man" just like Rev. Al and his ilk use the reverse to gain credibility and get $$ while trying to remain reagent.

Hope this makes things clear.

Hey Stan, the Dixie Chicks didn't profit that much after the boycott came in full swing, in fact, they had to switch from country music to adult contemporary just to read a new audience of people that wouldn't mind their anti-Bush politics.

To me profit isn't a consideration, I know the white supremacists are going to be selling swastikas, copies of Mein Kampf, and other stuff.

It's big business!

---Yes they are, but they are not entitled to a venue of their choosing unless such venue agrees to host them.

This is no different than a group of evangelicals telling Burger King not to sponsor some event they deem immoral.

Frankly, I don't mind them speaking or parading, I'm defending the leftists not because I agree with what they're doing but because I support their rights to free speech.

"Unfortunately as the author pointed out the left never debates ideas they only shout you down and try to silence you."

---That's true, but there are people on the right that get pretty riled out about porn in hotel rooms, sex education in school, controversial books in public libraries, violent video games and a host of other issues.

I love the right, but they desire to censor isn't exclusive to the left.

They got kicked out of a VFW hall - which is a private location. It shows they reconsidered the contract after someone(s) complained, and cancelled.

This is not the same as getting kicked out of a public place paid/funded by taxpayers.

You can say what you want, but if you say it in my house, I can kick you out.

Interesting how liberals like Bobby manage to justify their hatered for free speech.
