Australia's Incorrect Military again

We read:

"Flippant references to binge drinking by soldiers, foul language and racist remarks about Jews, Aborigines and Lebanese feature in emails being circulated among Australian Defence Force officers. One email complains falsely that refugees receive more than twice the amount of government assistance as aged pensioners.

The leaking of the emails to The Australian follows the posting of a video on the YouTube website showing drunken soldiers skolling alcohol through a tube and vomiting.

While ADF commanders condemned the behaviour of the soldiers, Defence Minister Brendan Nelson dismissed it as "a bit of larrikin irreverence".

Two emails circulating in the ADF are parodies of red and amber cards distributed to soldiers which set out rules of engagement for opening fire.

A red card is headed: "Escalated Piss-Ups in Town - Feeling Drunk and Bullet Proof." An amber card gives mock advice on "Unopposed Platoon Pub Crawls".

"While your commander will normally issue the first round, he may in fact be either too drunk already or Jewish," one email states.

"You are not to back away unless a Leb is calling reinforcements on his mobile."

Another email suggests it would be amusing for soldiers to pretend to Aborigines that they were members of the Ku Klux Klan.

Purse-mouthed Leftists are frothing about it of course so it is good to see that Australia's conservative government has a more level-headed view of it. The Defence Minister is absolutely correct in seeing it as an example of the great Australian tradition of "Larrikinism".
