A defeat for the ACLU

We read:
"After months of litigation against the ACLU and the Santa Rosa County School District, and on the eve of Independence Day, Liberty Counsel has restored freedom to the Santa Rosa County, Florida, School District teachers, staff, students, and members of the community.

Faced with an imminent trial and damning evidence of their constitutional violations, the ACLU and the Santa Rosa School District have agreed to settle Liberty Counsel’s federal lawsuit, challenging their Consent Decree on behalf of 24 students, teachers, parents and community members.

The Consent Decree that led to criminal indictments against school employees for prayer and banned “God Bless” in Santa Rosa County schools will now be gutted and revised.

The amended Consent Decree will restore dozens of constitutional religious freedoms that were previously denied. In addition, Liberty Counsel and Christian Educators Association International will be awarded $265,000 in attorney’s fees and costs from an insurance provider, not the taxpayers, to compensate them for the litigation caused by the ACLU and the District.

For decades, the ACLU has used intimidation to win most of it's cases, simply because most people thought them too big to beat, an illusion they themselves created. Now, as is the case with all bullies, once you fight back, they seem to shrink in size, and will. This story should be a lesson to all "the victims" of the aclu.

Why is it that the only "victims" of the aclu are conservative?

That is the group they oppose - that's why.

I guess it would be ok then for the government to round up conservatives for their speech, eh? After all, civil liberties are unimportant to conservatives based upon their hatred of the ACLU.

The ACLU is quite amoral, I'd say.

Not immoral, not at all; they end up on the beneficent side of the issues about as often as they don't, so they're not deliberately trying to harm the people affected by the rulings they seek, but they're not exactly trying to help them, either. Their motivations must lie outside of either of those possibilities.

[Side issue: the lefties here sure approach the arguments more as fans than as players, don't they?]

Anon 4:01 - Well, you tell us. We conservatives weren't exactly happy to hear about the valedictorian who could say 'Jesus helped me' in the valedictory speech. A judge threatened with JAIL TIME without a word from your beloved ACLU!

Did the valedictorian ask for the ACLU's help?
