Fraternity heavily penalized for incorrect chant

This is just a feminist over-reaction against a bit of youthful jocularity. They did NOT "threaten" anybody. They just did a chant as part of an initiation ritual. Their full chant was "No means Yes; Yes means anal", which is just a bit of bravado.

I have never taken part in such activities myself but have been present when other young men did and the same young men were perfectly courteous to women on other occasions
"A Yale fraternity whose alumni include both President Bushes has been banned from conducting any activities on campus for five years, including recruiting, as punishment for an episode last October in which members led pledges in chants offensive to women, the university announced on Tuesday.

“After a full hearing, the committee found that the D.K.E. chapter, as an organization, one comprised of Yale students, had threatened and intimidated others, in violation of the Undergraduate Regulations of Yale College as they pertain to ‘harassment, coercion or intimidation’ and ‘imperiling the integrity and values of the university community,’ ” Dr. Miller wrote.

The fact that the Bushes were in the fraternity probably had a lot to do with the severity of the crackdown

Gone are the days when youth could simply be youth. Now, it's all about sheltering, hovering over, and controlling our kids. Parents have become nothing more than coddling, enabling friends who have no clue about obedience, discipline, punishment, accountability, and responsibility. As i get older, death is looking better and better.

Yes - and the way kids can play off teachers against parents, as illustrated on other threads here. Kids have learned that adults have no actual authority and they can do as they please.

So promoting rape in certain contexts is just "youth being youth"? Sorry, but there is no context that makes rape (or promotion of rape) acceptable.

I was a member of delta kappa epsilon. We were proud of being the bad boys on campus. Back in the eighties, the chicks loved it. In fact, Animal House featured our state flag in the courtroom scene. Being the only chapter in TN, we were honored. These days, we'd be in gitmo.

Clear proof that political correctness has replaced the First Amendment.

How can "Chants offensive to women" (which I assume are not either aimed at particular women nor intended to be acted on) amount to harassment, coercion or intimidation?
Who was harassed, coerced or intimidated?

@Use the Name, Luke, The phrase "No means Yes; Yes means anal" might "promote" rape, but does it actually lead to rape? If it does, then you have a case, and it should be acted upon. If it does not, then it is nothing more than free speech that may offend some. Please provide some statistics that support that this fraternity engaged in more rapes than other fraternities.

Further, consider those friendly, peaceful Muslims. If uttering such phrases is considered promoting rape, then Muslims uttering such things as "Death to infidels!" or "Death to Americans!" MUST be considered promoting murder. And in these cases, Muslims have certainly murdered non-Muslims and Americans in the name of Islam. They should therefore be treated as the criminals that they are.

Welcome to Generation Weak. This is a clear violation of free speech, people pay big bucks to study at Yale, Yale itself receives government money and saves a fortune as a "non-profit." I say it's time to revoke their non-profit status.

You guys remind me of a quote from "Young Frankenstein":

"You are talking about the nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind. --Frederick

We're not the lunatics, annoymous. Normal people don't believe in PC. When I was in college I was afraid of fraternities, I thought it was for a-hole sports jocks, so you know what I did? I didn't join.

That's it, I didn't protest, didn't cry, didn't raise a ruckus, I simply decided "I don't like those people" so I'm not joining. See? That's freedom.

In fact, you can go to college without pledging a fraternity or even attending a frat party. So these stupid bitches that found the chant offensive need to get a freaking life or come up with their own chant.
