Big fines if British public builidngs fail to mark Europe Day‏

Some flag burners I can understand above. They look pretty happy about it too. Note that they are standing opposite the Palace of Westminster (The British Houses of Parliament)
"Eurocrats last night faced an angry revolt over attempts to force Britain to celebrate the EU’s Europe Day next week.

Scores of public buildings around the country are being ordered to fly the blue-and-gold European Union flag to mark the occasion next Monday.

Officials will be expected to ensure the flag remains hoisted for a week, with a swingeing fine from Brussels threatened for those that disobey.

Astonishingly, they even have to take a photograph of the flag flying and email it to the European Commission to ensure the regulations are being observed.

Last night Tory Cabinet Minister Eric Pickles savaged Brussels bureaucrats for ordering his Whitehall office to fly the EU flag.

It's no big deal. Soon the Brits will be flying the half-moon and cresent flag over their cities. Considering their new majority, that would be more appropriate.

"The floggings will continue until morale improves"

Seems to me the easiest way to fan the flames of revolt is to 'require' allegiance instead of inspiring it.

Go Britain! Let 'em know where they can hang their flags!

Looks like Brits will soon have to follow Americas leed when dealing with the EU.

Just 250 years latter!

I guess what comes around goes around!

You're correct Anon 5:40 AM.

The European Union is nothing more than a scam which is sucking lots of money from member states and doing nothing more than coming up with inane dictates whilst the bureaucrats party they arses off in Brussels and other venues.

Although it's a contenscious idea, I still think Europe and America would have been better off if:

1) America had stayed out of the European part of WW-II.

2) Germany would have won the war.

Hell, They might as well have just annexed the European Union States back in 1939-1940 cause it would have save millions of lives, billions of dollars and they'd be in the same political position they're in currently!

I think the Soviet Union would have defeated Nazi Germany even if the US and British Empire had remained neutral. It was a pyrrhic victory for bankrupted Britain, but the US had the opportunity to become a super-power, so WWII was to its advantage in the end (and also to Germany's and Japan's ironically). Britain threw away everything for Poland which ended up under Soviet communism anyways.

On it's own, the Soviet Union could not/would not have defeated Germany. In fact, neither could the US, on it's own.

It would have been a war of attrition between the Soviets and Nazis, but the USSR was a vast country that could and did relocate its industries to remoter parts. It's huge population of potential soldiers was virtually limitless and "expendable". German technology would not have overcome it. The USSR might also have had at least covert help from the democracies.
