Censorship at Western Michigan University
Must not tell the truth about Islam
"A Speaking Event to be held at Western Michigan University on March 10th 2009, which includes two former terrorists Walid Shoebat and Kamal Saleem who speak regularly on University campuses about the threat of Islamic terrorism, has been threatened with cancellation due to the pulling of grants, which were allocated by the University.
The grant of $8311 was passed 4 to 1 by the appropriations committee of the WSA (student activities administration of Western Michigan University). The grant approval was also sent in writing and signed by the finance director of the WSA. On Thursday evening Feb 19, the organizers of the event on campus received an email from the WSA revoking the grant because of a technicality.
Based on the letter signed by the WSA committee of appropriations by default the University appears to be deliberately attempting to stifle the free speech both organizers - The International Conservatives, and the speakers.
Chris McCann Chairman of the International Conservatives said “ We believe this is cynical attempt by the University administration to quash free speech on the campus by default; because they know without the grant we will have no recourse but to cancel the event, as we do not have enough time to make up the shortfall in money. As an American student organization our right of free speech is threatened; the very fundamental right and one of the very basic tenets of our constitution.”

If this is the case, these are times I truly wish I was a billionaire.
That way, instead of a mere $8,000, I would give the organization a good $25,000 to start off with and can have any type of speech that they want without being allegedly threaten by the university.
...in Western Michigan..."
Um, isn't that like the most Muslim-populous region in the U.S.A.? Of course the event will be canceled! U.S. Constitutional law is slowly being trumped by Islamic law in that region. It's only a matter of time that it spreads like a festering plague to the rest of the country.
@The Times Observer:
Ooops! You missed a key the point in the article. The grant was revoked by the WSA (the university) due to a "technicality". You could give them $25,000 or $250,000, but if the WSA doesn't want your money to go through, they'll find a technicality to hold it up or revoke it and your generosity is lost.
Anon-1, bullseye! The first phase of "Islamitization" is to move into a country. Then spread out. Then start making demands as though they are actual citizens. It's being done all over the EU, especially in Britain, which now recognizes Sharia Law.
How can they accomplish this? Only because of the weakness and stupidity of the native peoples.
There should a lawsuit over this these stupid speech code from whinny liberals should be struck down as unconstitutional
Very true Anonymous.
I guess the only way I could correct the problem is to donate the money to the university itself on the condition that there will be no more "technicalities".
Even a million dollar donation would make that university forget people's skin color and be more than happy with the color green I'll be giving them.
One must wonder what the "technicality" was.
Secondly, it is not like the website that this article is linked to doesn't have a dog in the fight. There is a hint of bias in their accounting of this incident.
Birdzilla,
There is an organization that focuses on these types of abuses and files lawsuits when necessary. They're called FIRE, which is short for "Foundation for Individual Rights in Education".
On a related note, Michigan State has backed down in the spamming claim against Kara Spencer. Apparently they have even promised to not persecute similar cases either, at least while they are "reviewing" their spam policy.
So to the anonymous poster who thought the university was absolutely right, I have just one thing to say: Neener, neener, neener! (Tongue in cheek.) Seriously, they apparently realized that they were wrong, otherwise they wouldn't have (nor should they have) backed down.
"...at least they're not weak and stupid like the natives, who simply sit by and watch it all happen!"
So what are we supposed to do? We voice our opinions that we don't want Muslims living here, and we are called intolerant. We voice our opinions that we don't want illegal aliens living here, and we are labeled racist. We voice our opinions that we don't want outsiders encroaching on our established way of life and we are called insensitive.
Frankly, it's the political correctness that has been so cleverly woven into our laws that prevent us from doing anything about it!

If you read the article, they withdrew the complaint after all the publicity. They did not admit that they were wrong and the policy is still in effect.
After all, organizations never back down in the face of bad publicity, do they?
FIRE and the student repeatedly misrepresented what happened in this incident and you bought into it.

What we do is recognize that those who call us "intolerant", "racist", or "insensitive", when we have rational reasons for opposing the above examples, are our ENEMIES, and do not have our best interests at heart. All they want is to gain absolute power over our lives the way that masters used to have absolute power over the lives of slaves, and that this is a very apt comparison. I think it was Burke who wrote that if the authorities have been corrupted and side with the predators and deny justice, then they put themselves into the same state of war against the people as the predators. In such a case, the parties are returned to the state of nature, and an "appeal to heaven" may be the last means for gaining justice.
