Stars must never be yellow

eBay's yellow star prompts 'Nazi' complaint
"EBAY has temporarily renamed the yellow stars it uses to evaluate sellers on its French site after a complaint that the symbol had anti-semitic connotations. The move came after French eBay user Dominique Bellamy wrote to the company earlier this month to point out that during World War II the Nazis made Jews wear a yellow star on their clothes as a discriminatory mark.

His wife Francoise Bellamy said that her husband "refused to be given a yellow star, even a virtual one. It brought back bad memories France's occupation by Germany during World War II, she said.

eBay's star system is used to show how many positive ratings a buyer or seller has received from the site's users. The yellow star is the lowest of the 12-point scale, and a silver shooting star is the top score.

Hitler liked German Shepherd dogs so every time I see a German Shepherd dog, I think of Hitler and his horrors. Therefore because of my reaction, all German Shepherd dogs should be put down. Similar logic?

Personally I've never been impressed by eBay's colored star system. Unless you happen to know exactly what each color means, the stars themselves don't give any other indication of what they mean. As a result, they tend to be a waste of space rather than a meaningful indicator about the seller.

That said, this is just stupid hysteria. It's not a Star of David and it has absolutely nothing to do with race, religion, or anything like that, so they need to get over it.

Jon, the star used by the Nazis on Jews was the six pointed Star of David, eBay's is five pointed. So your final comment should really read: "Hitler liked German Shepherd dogs so every time I see a Poodle I think of German Shepherd dogs, and then of Hitler and his horrors".

The guy is clearly deranged. What next? Ban the night sky?

Hey! The night sky is black with yellow/white stars. I am offended that you are making racist comments!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if eBay had employees who knew a little history who could point out to these silly people that the six-pointed yellow stars (not eBay's five pointed ones) were created with two fabric triangles, creating a Star of David? Perhaps their offense could be better shaped with a little knowledge.

I thought eBay used gold, five pointed stars. Not yellow, six pointed stars.

If the person is that sensitive, use a different auction house.

I like Labrador retrievers so every time I see a Labrador retriever, I think of Bob and Doug McKenzie, Hosehead, Elsinore Beer and hockey eh?

Last year whilst visiting my cousin in Austin, Texas (USA) I say a tall man in uniform and a stetson hat wearing a Gold (yellow) badge with a 5-pointed star in the middle.

I often wondered if he was trying to offend concentration camp inmates?

Is there any wonder why the entire world views socialist france and it's people as being totally irrelevant? I wonder, is the french gentleman also offended by the HUGE number of his fellow countrymen who gladly collabrated with the Nazi's? Does he refuse to look upon his fellow frogs for that reason?

I wonder why ebay crumbled at ONE complaint.

"I wonder why ebay crumbled at ONE complaint."

That's easy. It's because it represents the precise definition of Political Correctness. You must not offend ANYONE. And if a minority of people--even just one--is offended, then that is enough to REQUIRE changing policy to remove that which is offensive.

Remember that we no longer live in a democracy where the majority rules. It is the vocal minority that makes the rules that the silent majority must follow.
