British district council bans the 'rude' street names that might offend
We read:
"For some, the road signs mean one thing - home. For others they may simply raise a smile. But one council is failing to see the funny side of names such as Hoare Road and Cracknuts Lane.
In a bid to avoid double entendres and unflattering place names, Lewes District Council, in East Sussex, has drawn up guidelines for new street names. The council's cabinet is expected to agree its first street naming and numbering policy on Tuesday which will ban potentially rude sounding names. Cockshut Lane is among the innuendo-laden road names to be outlawed by Lewes District Council
They say that 'aesthetically unsuitable' names, such as Gaswork Road, Tip House and Coalpit Lane, should be avoided. Also banned are 'names capable of deliberate misinterpretation like Hoare Road, Typple Avenue, Quare Street, Corfe Close (4 Corfe Close) etc'.
It adds: 'Street names which could give offence are not used, nor are names which encourage defacing name plates.' Under the scheme, Lewes's present day Juggs Road and Cockshut Road may have been rejected.

Nobody must be offended by anything these days

What would these nanny-state fools say if they lived in, Intercourse, or Blueballs, Pennsylvania? (USA)The Brits will be brought back to reality when the Moose-lambs take full control of the country, rather than just the large sections they control now.
This sounds like there are way too many people in the government because they have to justify their existence with crap like this. Are they going to ban people and companies next? What about Ed Koch or Dick Chenney? What about companies like the Ashman company?
This is simply an effort to rewrite history and is the product of the dumbing down of society.
It makes no sense in any event. Many of the names discussed are descriptive and make perfect sense - if you tell someone you live in Gaswork Rd or Tip House they'll know you live near the gasworks or the local rubbish dump.
Hoare Rd and others were likely named after a person who lived there or contributed to that community etc.
And what about if 'Smith' becomes a euphemism for something salacious in the future - do they rename all those streets too?
People are stupid but none more so than government workers trying to justify themselves...

Pennsylvania?
Isn't that where the Hershey Highway is located?
Here in the states, a new verb was created about 10 years ago. It used to be that Monica was just a gal’s name, now it is a verb meaning oral sex, after Bill Clinton was in the white house. So will Monica Rd, in Birmingham West Midlands be changed too?
Most guys in the USA now know that to get a Monica is a good thing!
Also a slang from a while ago, to be Jonesed, means to be going down hard from a drug trip. So should I have to change my name?
The other Mobius, Dave Jones.

YES, Dave..
You should change your name to: Smackey Flatline!
In the US, we also have the Grand Tetons as named by French-Canadian trappers a long time ago !
