Must not mention Obama's middle name while in uniform

"Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott’s now infamous appearance at Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s public rally has caught the attention of federal officials. Scott is under federal investigation for wearing his uniform during the campaign stump, a spokesman for the Office of Special Counsel said on Tuesday.
The investigation follows Scott’s use of presidential candidate Barack Obama’s middle name in his comments before the crowd, a moment that Scott later said he didn’t regret but that has caused an uproar in parts of Lee County.

Of course, if the good Sheriff was at an Obama rally, he'd be a media darling today. If these outgoing federal officials are looking to hang someone, they should go after GWB for leaving this country in the mess that it's in and allowing the country (and us) to be put into the hands of the far-left!
This is one of those things that can bite you in the butt with America's byzantine campaign laws.
As a private citizen, you can say anything you want about a candidate or the government.
Once you appear to be acting in an "official" capacity (i.e. wearing a uniform of some government agency sure makes you look like you're working in an "official" capacity) then you must be apolitical. You cannot appear to be putting the weight of your office behind one side or the other.
If he had simply appeared in a suit, and been identified by his name and office, he would have been fine. It was the implied weight of "official" support that is imparted by his uniform that is the problem.
Using The One's middle name just drew attention to him - he should have been reprimanded either way.
This is BS. How many thousands of times in America have uniformed officers appeared in support of a candidate. In California alone I remember many times uniformed officers positioned behind Arnold when their association or union was giving their endorsement. Now some individual departments have regulations where you are not allowed to do this but I doubt if there is any federal action coming.

hmm - I might have to re-read it, but I don't recall any parts of the first amendment restricting free speech based on the clothing the speaker is wearing, but everyone knows that such loose interpretation is where we are headed now.
@Mike: You are 100% correct, but somehow, the notion of "separation of government from politics", similar to "separation of church and state", seems to apply in so many cases, specifically when there is government representation. My take? The first amendment is the first amendment, and it is currently being suppressed for sake of political correctness.

Just what leader are you talking about? If you mean GWB, he is not, nor was he ever a leader of the Right. He was simply the lessor of two evils, (as was John McLoser) which is how he was elected. Had his compitition in 2000 and 2004 not been full-blown socialists, he would have lost.
As an Independant Conservative, i can tell you that (IMO) GWB was never fit to be president! The results of his two elections simply proved he was "less unfit" than his socialist opponents.
I will only refer to him as President Hussein.
