"Star-spangled banner" becoming incorrect?
It appears to be optional in Denver, Colorado. I guess it does mention -- horrors! -- GOD in the 4th verse:
We read:
"Mayor John Hickenlooper's annual State of the City address may get more attention for what wasn't included than what was. At the start of the event Tuesday morning, City Council President Michael Hancock introduced singer Rene Marie to perform the national anthem. Instead, she performed the song "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing," which is also known as the "black national anthem."
When she finished, the audience responded with mild applause. The national anthem was never performed....
City Councilman Charlie Brown took to talk radio Tuesday afternoon to criticize the absence of the national anthem at the State of the City proceedings. "There is no substitute for the national anthem, period," Brown said. "And that's what really bothered me. You know when we fly the flag, the American flag, it's always the highest flag, as it should be. And that didn't come across today, that didn't happen today."

The words of the "black" song are given at the link above. It's not a bad song but it is not the long-accepted and legally proclaimed anthem of America.
A couple of comments from Free Republic:
* "You know, I thought for a while that we were getting over our racial issues as a nation."
* "As long as whites exist, there will be racism. Not because whites are pining for the good old days of Jim Crow, no, but for the simple reason we are the excuse many need for failure. Decades of failure to embrace the chances their parents and grandparents won for them with blood and sweat, decades of blaming whitey when they refused to accept that they have a place beside every other man and woman who chooses to stand on their own two feet. Whites are scapegoats for nearly every social and economic ill. It's easier than taking a look in the mirror and accepting responsibility for your own shortcomings than doing something about it."

You left out one important fact. Rene Marie (the singer) was supposed to perform the national anthem. As she put it in an interview, she performed a "switheroo" without telling anybody ahead of time.
Correct. She violated her contract as well as her right to call herself an American.
If she's so proud of being black, she can go to Zimbadwe.
Except there of course she'll be discriminated against for being the wrong kind of black...
I have to wonder, what would have happened, if a white singer had sung the National Anthem instead of the black one at a gathering of black people? Would the black group be as forgiving as the white groups?
Mobius
This mayor, aside from having a stupid name, is also a weakling. He should have immediately taken the mic away from her. What she "knowingly" did was not only an insult to the audience, but to the country and "almost" every American! Had she done that in some middle eastern country, her nappy head would be in a basket now!
Many blacks, not bothering to wait for the election, already have the attitude that this is now "our" country. (ie: now we're in charge) And this is just the begining!
What this also shows us is how weak the American people are seen as being, not just by other countries and peoples, but by many right here at home. And, they're right!...... GSP
She has apologized, I don't believe continuing to be angry over it is productive.
She exercised poor decision making in deviating from the national anthem. Artists tend to do that.
Here apology is irrelevent since she "knowingly and deliberately" sang that song. Only a liberal moron would be making excuses for her.
The Federal Prosecutor should have her indicted for the crime of TREASON!
Treason is an act of disloyalty or betrayal of trust to your own government.
Maybe 10-years in a Federal prison would have her singing a different tune (pun intended)!
If you can't accept an apology then you have no place in civil society.
That's where the left is always falling down in fact, they won't accept apologies from those to the right of them and never seem to see a need for them from those to their left.
Actually - she did NOT apologise and said she would do it again. No forgiveness asked for and none given.
You're right, she didn't apologize. It's just the liberal fools making excuses for her as they usually do whenever they see a "victim".
Multiple news sources quoted her as apologizing. How ever the comment saying she would do it again just continues to show how little good judgment and thinking the singer has.
Oh, and name calling is the domain of leftists.
She apologized and then rescinded the apology. Not a very bright woman.
Had she been smart about sneaking in the "Black national anthem", she would have sung it as a second verse after singing the familiar first verse we all know as the national anthem. As the real second and subsequent verses are not so well known, few if any would have recognized that she wasn't singing the real second verse of the national anthem.
