Hungary: High court defends free speech against Leftists

And zaps proposed "hate speech" law:
"The Constitutional Court on Monday struck down legislation on hate speech, as well as a clause on funding church-run schools. President Laszlo Solyom sent the amendments to the Court for preliminary review in March. The amendments were passed by Socialist MPs without the support of the cabinet.

In declaring that hate speech may not be punishable, the Court said the right of free speech may not be denied simply because comments offend the interests, views or sensitivity of others, or if those comments are offensive or humiliating to individuals.

The court also struck down an amendment that would have enabled members of ethnic minorities and organizations to take legal action over offensive remarks affecting their group.

Good to hear that sanity survives in one part of Europe. I guess that their experience under Communism has something to do with that.

Amazing! Those that have only enjoyed the taste of freedom a few years seem to value it more than those of us who have had it for generations. We seem willing to just throw it away in the name of political correctness.

Who would have thought that here in the 21st century, the so-called free nations that tell the world they're free, when what they acutally mean is weak, should look to Hungry to see what real freedom is! Let's just hope they're smart enough and strong enough to fight the insidious virus known as political correctness.

I think we should send the article to all judges in the US including SCOTUS. Maybe it would help them get enough backbone to stand up to the PC police and follow the constitution.

Well, if socialists like Obama gain power and things get too hellish in North America, it looks like Eastern Europe would be the place to go to find refuge. From what I've read, Slovenia would be another good place.
