"Vagina" a bad word?

The reference does appear to have been an egregious one

"A female Democratic state representative in Michigan said Thursday that she has been silenced by her Republican colleagues after she uttered the word 'vagina' while criticizing a slate of bills that would restrict female reproductive rights.

Michigan State Rep. Lisa Brown (D) made her comments during a Wednesday debate on proposed legislation that critics say could effectively ban abortions in the state.

'I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs,' she said. 'Why are you asking me to adopt yours? And finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested in my vagina, but no means no.'"

House Republican leadership later confirmed to Michigan Radio that they felt her comment violated decorum, and that she would not be called upon in future debates.

Republicans, who hold a powerful majority in the Michigan House and Senate, passed the bills with the help of just six Democrats in a vote Wednesday of 70-39.

More here

Leftists do appear to be rather fond of referring to reproductive terms.  "Get your rosaries off my ovaries" is another egregious usage sometimes directed at Catholics.

Of course, all the "news" is reporting this as she is being banned for saying vagina. And of course, the truth is something completly different. I just can't believe anything I hear or read from the news media anymore.

It's not necessarily the word she used but the context she placed it in. All the noise about the word is a smokescreen to cover the vulgar context of how it was used.

I agree completely with Anon 1:57.

Can you imagine the hysteria and outrage had a Republican said that very same thing? She is simply reminding us of the basic philosophy of the left, "do as i say, not as i do..."

Funny thing is the bill being argued was actually to regulate abortion clinics and requiring consultation prior to having an abortion thus increasing knowledge and safety for women that choose to go there. Why are they so afraid of women being educated and being safe? I live here in Michigan and this rep and her supporters have spun this into the republicans "war on women", who is really engaging in a war on women? Libs use people all the time to advance their screwed up ideologies, to them the end always justifies the means. This rep also continues to lie about why she was censured and for how long she would be censured. The day it happened I knew how long and why but she insists she was never told. As another rep said “if she wants to know she should get up and walk across the room and ask”.

This isn't related to the article. But I want to thank you for being one of the few places that still allows direct comment. It seems that almost immediately after the Facebook IPO all the major news site switched to Facebook and Twitter only. Curious, does Facebook give them money?

She intended her comment to irritate others in the room. It worked. But the outcome was different that what she expected.

The very last thing the Left wants is for women (or blacks or gays) to start thinking for themselves. If that happens, women are likely to realize that the Left has used them as nothing more than political props.

Kinda weird how many Leftists have their identity wrapped up in their genitalia. It is difficult to take seriously a walking and talking crotch.

It was definitely about context. The word is not crude when used to discuss the human body. She was using it for shock effect in a very vulger manner. What a shrew.

I also have noticed the hypocricy of the left about sodas. According to them I'm smart enough to decide whether or not to get an abortion, but too dumb to make my own consumption choices. Apparently "My body, my choice" only refers to my girlie bits.

2:59 PM - so why do conservative/traditionalists insist that two adults who wish to marry must have genitalia of a specific kind. Your argument is weak indeed!

Righty's do appear to be rather fond of legislating on reproductive organs. Why are they clutching their pearls and gasping when somebody talks about them?

I thought babies grew in the uterus, not the vagina?

Liberals hate
Christian, white, gun owning, rich men - all the characteristics of our founding fathers.

'slave-owning' was also a characteristic of some Founding Fathers, so should we advocate slavery?
