Even a Black Cannot Mention Race Now

A black politician put up an anonymous satirical note on the internet, saying of a white congressional candidate: "Tammy Lee is the best choice to replace Congressman Martin Sabo. After all, she's white -- just like us." The intention appears to have been to say that only white racists would vote for her or that her race was all she had going for her. It's clearly a derogatory statement but "negative" campaign advertisements are hardly new.

When it transpired that it was a black politician who said that, there was a great uproar -- even from some blacks. Clearly, race is the unmentionable elephant in the bedroom. If it were not, nobody would be bothered by mentions of it.

Details here.
