Atheists Demand NC Town Remove Ten Commandments From Town Hall

Maybe they should start calling them the "Ten Suggestions". Even Christians tend to treat them that way anyhow.
"Atheists now have their sights set on Newland, North Carolina, where the secular Freedom From Religion Foundation has sent a letter demanding that the town remove a Ten Commandments plaque from a government office building.

In a letter sent to town manager Brenda Pittman, the group said that a local individual saw the display, was offended and would like it taken down.

The letter was brought to the attention of the Newland Town Council at Tuesday night’s meeting, and was distributed to the press. Town board members were incensed over the outside interference, and passed a motion to ask for the press to publish the letter, but took no other official action except to turn the matter—and the letter—over to the town attorney.

If the plaque is not removed, precedent would indicate that the FFRF will continue its battle against it. Generally speaking, these letters are only the first step in a slew of tactics used to ensure that religious items are removed, taken down or altered

Has anybody seen this 'local individual', and reported they are offended by his/her appearance and want them to be removed from the town? If you don't like it, don't look.

"Has anybody seen this 'local individual..."

Interesting point. In most of the cases brought by left-wing groups, they always manage to find that one person who was/is offended. Funny how no one ever finds out who that mysterious person is, assuming they actually exist.

Make you theists a deal...you keep your invisible friend to yourself and stop trying to use the instructions in his club handbook to run the country and I'll keep my disdain for your ignorant allegiance to a 2000-yr old fairy tale to myself.
Y'all have a lovely tax exempt church to keep your malevolent and not so merciful sky-friend in. Please keep him out of government buildings or PAY YOUR F!@#$%G PROPERTY TAXES!

Anon 5:23 has just called a personal opinion "stupid." And he doesn't just "seem" to display a lot of hostility - but does display a lot of hostility. And I defend his right to talk this way, but point out that if a heart so steeped in atheism leads to a mouth so steeped in obscenities and contempt, I'll keep my imaginary friend's influence in my life, thank you.

Anon 7:25, a perfect example of "There is no god; and I hate him."

As for keeping his disdain to himself, I don't believe it for a second, given his history of spreading that disdain around with a heavy hand with only slimmest excuse of a provocation, or none at all.

It really is sad to see what such hatred does to a person.

“But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
— Luke 6:27–28

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;
— Galatians 5:22–23

OMG! That's just terrible! Whatever are we gonna do about these horrible things that Christianity teaches people?!?

Sorry dude. I just cannot see these things as wrong. On the other hand, your anger just screams through your posts. I do feel sorry for you.

When all else fails, post a Bible passage. Hey it would be nice if Christians actually followed those passages, especially right wing republicans.

It would be nice if you followed them too. You would be a lot better off.

It is quite funny to me... God is so powerful that even the mere MENTION or PASSING GLANCE at some of His practical ideas for how to run one's life can cause these militant atheists such an emotional reaction. In fact, His words have such power that they cannot bear to gaze upon them for a second. Wow!

@Stan B-There all sorts of stupid personal opinions. so are held by theists, some by atheists. Most are held by politicians though.

@ Luke-I don't hate your invisible friend any more than I hate invisible pink unicorns. Neither exists so it would be a waste of good hate I could use on the aforementioned politicians. However you did fail to address the key point of my post-religious organizations need to stay out of politics and governance or pay taxes. Everyone else has to pay-to-play (so to speak) so get out or ante up. I await your pointless personal insult of a response. (Though I will give you credit for being less annoying than Bird)
