Maryland state workers say American Flag Violates Law‏

We read:
"A Maryland community is up in arms after state highway workers removed an American flag honoring military personnel from a traffic circle and threw it into a dump truck. “We want our flag back,” Rhonda Winkler told Fox News & Commentary. “We are patriots and we love America.”

Winkler and her family erected the flag in a traffic circle three years ago in the town of Woodbine. They posted the flag to honor their nephew, a soldier deployed to Afghanistan.

“They told us it was against the law to erect a flag on the traffic circle,” Winkler said. “They told my husband that whoever put up the flag could be arrested for trespassing.”

State highway workers also told her that people had complained about Old Glory. “We figured it’s the American flag and we live in the United States of America – how can anyone have a problem with it,” Winkler asked.

The flags removal sparked outrage across the community. Dozens of people turned out for a rally – many people waving flags. It was especially moving for local residents who have loved ones serving in the military.

“If it was something derogatory or inappropriate, that’s one thing,” resident Gene Mellin told the newspaper. “But to take the flag down, it’s not right.

As for now – there’s no indication if the state of Maryland will reverse their decision – or if the Winkler family will get back their flag. She said state workers have refused to return the Stars and Stripes.

Publicity could well cause a rethink of this pointless action

"A Maryland community is up in arms..."

If the people were truly up in arms, things like this would never happen. In no other country in the world is their national sysmbol, their flag, looked upon with such disrespect and disgust, nor would the rantings of one malcontent be enough to disrupt the wishes of an entire community.

In fact, most of the anti-American things done by this govt. wouldn't happen if the people had the strength and the will to be "up in arms". The reason they do happen is because govt. officials and minor bureaucrats see the people as weak, gullible, and mindless sheep. And, they're right.

"State highway workers also told her that people had complained about Old Glory."

The complainers shouldn't have their complaint taken at their word but instead their names should have been turned over to the FBI as potential terrorists needing watching.

Assuming of course that the person who said their were complaints wasn't simply a liar trying to justify an ignorant action.

As someone who has lived nearby Maryland for decades, I can tell that this most likely happened in Prince George's County, Montgomery County, Baltimore County or the City of Baltimore. Maybe one of the suburbs of Baltimore or DC not covered above. They are full lefty nitwits who keep electing lefty nitwits to Annapolis. The rest of Maryland is quite sane.

Not shocking from libby MD. I left MD for VA because of the liberal insanity there.

Found a lead: The Montreal Canadiens apologize for not hiring a french speaking coach.

@ Brian: It was the state highway people who took it away. The people outraged with the community, so it most certainly would not be in the liberal places you listed. The people in Moco would probably celebrate the removal of the flag. Oh and thus notjob liberals instituted their 5 cent bag tax yesterday.

WORD OF THE DAY
ELECTION, n.

A practical application in fooling some of the people all of the time, it's a political process wherein Elected Tormentors measure the gullibility of the chad-punching electorate.

I don't know. I've heard too many of these jump to conclusions stories, where it turns out that the reason people complained was because the display in question blocked a line-of-sight or something, not because it is a flag. One business here in my town has these big flags out near the curb, and because of them I can't see if cars are coming when I go to pull out of the parking lot. I would love to see those flags go, or be raised so they don't block the sight line. That doesn't mean I hate the flag. Also, is it a NICE flag on a nice pole? I for one would want any display of Old Glory in a prominent place in my town to be nice enough to show it the proper reverence. Finally, flag or not, does anyone have the right to stick whatever they want in the middle of a traffic circle? My brother is headed to Afghanistan in a few months. Is the town square mine or my mother's to do with as we please in honor of him? I think not.
