Apology sought from Wisconsin school superintendent who bullied Christian teen over homosexual adoption

This disgraceful episode is now in the hands of the lawyers
"A 15-year-old Wisconsin boy who wrote an op-ed opposing gay adoptions was censored, threatened with suspension and called ignorant by the superintendent of the Shawano School District, according to an attorney representing the child.

Mathew Staver, the founder of the Liberty Counsel, sent a letter to Superintendent Todd Carlson demanding an apology for “Its unconstitutional and irrational censorship and humiliation” of Brandon Wegner.

Wegner, a student at Shawano High School, was asked to write an op-ed for the school newspaper about whether gays should be allowed to adopt. Wegner, who is a Christian, wrote in opposition. Another student wrote in favor of allowing gays to adopt. Wegner used Bible passages to defend his argument, including Scripture that called homosexuality a sin.

The school immediately issued an apology – stating Wegner’s opinion was a “form of bullying and disrespect.”

But Staver said what the school system did next was absolutely outrageous. He said the 15-year-old was ordered to the superintendent’s office where he was subjected to hours of meetings and was accused of violating the school’s bullying policy.

“The superintendent called him ignorant and said he had the power to suspend him,” Staver said. “He’s using his position to bully this student. This is absolutely the epitome of intolerance.”

FOX News & Commentary offered Carlson a chance to address the allegations. He refused to submit to questions, but did say he would send a statement. That statement never arrived.

Staver said an apology from the superintendent may not suffice – and they may consider taking legal action. “It was a very intimidating situation for this 15-year-old boy,” he said.”It was uncalled for. He crossed the line. It’s absolutely outrageous and he needs to apologize for his actions.”

A good illustration of how twisted a Leftist mind can get. The kid was the one being bullied but he was accused of bullying!

Time to demand their resignations, not an "I'm sorry.". If they were willing to bully this kid they'll do it again.

One issue that makes this even more twisted is the fact the young man was ASSIGNED TO PEN THE ARTICLE AS THE "COUNTER POINT"! Thus he was likely placed in such position by the school official. If think for a minute, the adult school authority knowingly placed the young Christian in the situation that he must complete the assignment as a counter to the opposing view. The young Christian HAD to perform to win or risk failing the assignment. Adding the fact his belief (likely known and counted on by the school authority) would require him to use his biblical knowledge as a tool for his essay. Thus the young Christian was placed in untenable delimma; write a half-hearted response counter to his believes AND risk a bad grade for awful work or complete his assignment to the best of his ability. Another intersting note is all high school paper has a teacher editor who assigns AND review the work. What is the statement from the school and the teacher (the one who approves, assigns, and REVIEWS the article before publishing)?

Annon 3:17, thank you for proving our point. leftists for all their pontificating about "tolerance" are the most intolerant and bigoted lot around.

The principal had EVERYTHING to do with this. HE is the one bullying the 15 YEAR OLD!

Let me take your child and call him into the principal’s office and drill him for an hour about his religious views and see how you like it.

Leftists like you scream about bullying but you are the biggest bullies around!

But, as idiots like you are fond of saying…
“free speech for me but not for thee!”

Or my personal favorite…
“you are free to agree with me!”

That tactic is from basic leftism 101. Always blame your enemies for what you yourself do and say. I hope the lawyers take the school (and the fool) for every cent they have. This goes way beyond a mere apology.

Anon 4:38,

Excuse me, but it is was the SUPERINTENDENT of the school district that called the kid into his office and tried to bully him.

Quoting the article:

".....threatened with suspension and called ignorant by the superintendent of the Shawano School District....."

".....the 15-year-old was ordered to the superintendent’s office ...."

Todd Carlson is the superintendent of the school district, not the principal of the school.

Please check your facts and try to understand what is being said before going off on a rant which only exposes your ignorance of the subject matter.

Liberals can be bullies a lot of times only they can count on the media to cover for them

There were two editorials on this story - one for, one against.
Only the writer of the case against attracted attack...
Some obvious questions:
1. Why pose the question at all if only one side was permitted
2. Why assign a writer to a viewpoint which set him up for attack
3. Why publish the viewpoint if it would expose the child to attack
4. Why would an adult tasked with supervising our child believe that content discrimination was acceptable and that attacking the writer was an acceptable way to deal with an opinion that you disagree with.
5. What has this episode taught free thinking children in this school district? To shut up because their views are not wanted.

It just reflects that the US population today has become increasingly polarized according to political, economic, social and even religious nuances (also reflected in the run-up to the Presidential campaign - and also on this site). What this says on a sociological or historical basis I'm not sure.
