We read:
"Papa Johns pizza has issued an apology to a customer after an employee identified her as 'lady chinky eyes' in her order. The racial identification was caught by New York City customer Minhee Cho Friday night after the store printed her receipt.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday, she uploaded a picture of the paper with the caption: 'Hey @PapaJohns just FYI my name isn't 'lady chinky eyes"
But by Saturday evening, the company had reached out to Ms Cho with an apology. 'We were extremely concerned to learn of the receipt issue in New York. This act goes against our company values, and we've confirmed with the franchisee that this matter was addressed immediately and that the employee is being terminated,' they write.

Is it necessary to fire someone over this? How about a nice apology and some "sensitivity training" to make sure that everyone understands the problem? It sounds to me like a training issue and a management deficit that this employee thought a "nickname" on the receipt was appropriate.
Were employees encouraged to use nicknames to identify customers? Have other "humorous" nicknames been used in the past by others this employee was trained by or observed?
To assume that "everyone knows" something (i.e. what is an appropriate nickname and what is not) is pretty arrogant, IMHO.
Hey whats become of FREEDOM OF SPEECH?
Was he/she terminated for or with extreme prejudice?
Disclaimer: I am not defending the appellation "lady chinky eyes". The statement that the employee would be terminated just struck me as humorous.
Liberals sensetive two faced hypotcrits
Sorry folks, have to disagree on this one. I despise most of the PC BS, but would have fired that moron employee in a heart beat.
This wasn't about government or schools forcing their ideology down everyone's throat.
This was about a moron employee openly insulting a customer to her face in a manner that only the most astonishingly oblivious and ignorant person would not realize was likely to be taken as extremely and gratuitously offensive.
As manager, I would have seen this as intentionally sabotaging the business.
Yeah, this is one of those things that is inexcusable and most businesses won't tolerate.
I do like how Papa John's handled this though. They didn't immediately make some PC statement. They contacted the franchise, and let the franchise investigate. Once the investigation was done and the franchise made a decision, the corporation issued a general apology and a specific apology to the woman.
No rush to judgement was made.
The problem with businesses is they have to hire people. Some people are going to be dumber than others.
It makes really bad business sense for Papa Johns to allow it's employees to put such a name on the receipt, as it will cause them to lose business. So they are absolutely right to fire the employee. However my question, is why on earth would anyone in NYC order Papa Johns? It is the worst pizza on earth, and NYC has tons of GREAT pizza.
"The problem with businesses is they have to hire people. Some people are going to be dumber than others."
If the liberals have their day, very shortly, you wont be able to fire someone for being stupid.. They want stupidity covered under the ADA..
Sure, the kid has a right to say stupid things like that.
Equally important is "Papa John's" right to say "not in my place of business" and fire someone who's going to cost them customers.
Are you guys kidding? This isn't a free speech issue. If you run a customer service business and think it's ok to toss racial unprovoked epithets at customers you're fools. Everyone here affirming this employee just gives the PC nuts more ammo. Good job.
What if the comment hadn't been racial in nature? While I'm completely for free speech, there are consequences to it. Insulting a customer for any reason is a excellent way to get fired. Careful not to put too much credence in the 'racial' part of it, unless we are discussing it as a 'hate crime'
PS. What kind of name is Minhee Cho? You can keep the Cho but why not Monique or Maria or something more American? Jesus Christ, these foreigners think they're still in whatever godforsaken hellhole they came from.
IF YOU'RE IN AMERICA, ACT AMERICAN! That's how I see it.
Gregory Smith,
If you think that why isn't your name something like "Head Smashed In" or "Speaks Without Thinking" since the names you mentioned also came from overseas.
A good lesson for other employees that insulting customers is not the road to success for any business.
The comment was offensive and insulting. The company wanted to demonstrate that this is not the way they wish to do business - so - the employee lost their job.
The way it oughta be....
Yes, Gregory Smith's european immigrant ancestors should have been true Americans and lived in a wigwam or teepee and adorned themselves with paint and feathers. Or maybe they did and just took european names.
Theres a old song called PRETTY BLUE EYES
