The Beleaguered Christians: Campus Crusade Drops Christ

We read:
"Many faithful Christians feel that Campus Crusade for Christ’s announcement to drop Christ from their name is one more confirmation that there is a wholesale departure from the bedrock foundation of their faith. A woman recently asked me, “Where will this end?” Certainly, she is not alone in feeling overwhelmed and confused at the changes taking place today.

While I am not one who questions the motives of CCCI’s current leadership’s decision to drop “Christ” out of their name, I do question the wisdom of their timing. In a time when political correctness has run amok and the name of Christ has been eliminated from many Christian organizations (like The Christian Children’s Fund who is now ChildFund International), the faithful feel that Campus Crusade’s decision is yet another rug pulled out from under them.

Some Christians are rightly skeptical of CCCI Vice President Sellers’ words assuring them that, “…the ministry will still be committed to proclaiming Christ around the world.”

If Christ is no longer important to these organizations, or if He's not as important as generating revenue, or if they would prefere to bow to political correctness instead of bowing to Him, then they will not see my money.

The best way to choke them is not to cut off their air, but their money!

Isn't it a question of marketing? If they are in some commercial or community service relying on income and donations from as many sources as possible, they no doubt consider it expedient to have a neutral and non-religious name. If they aren't too concerned about income they can highlight their religious agenda.

I guess they will rate the koran and Torah just at important as the Bible now they have removed Jesus.

CCC has been known on many campuses as "Cru" for quite sometime. Most of the complaints that are being voiced are from former members, who no longer are in a position to see how the name is affecting the ministry, or from people who never were a part of the ministry and think they know what is best for others.

When Josh McDowell says that this is a manufactured controversy and that the actual college groups are pleased with the name change, I have a tendency to go with him.

The funny thing is that the guy who wrote the article has a church called "Church of the Apostles."

How is he able, in good conscience, to complain about another ministry for not having the name of "Christ" in their name?

Unbelievable.

Political correctness.

A policy espoused by the Liberal masses in order to demonstrate their embracing of multi-culturalism, and the belief that "we can all live together in peaceful harmoney".

I lived through a similar era of that bull shit back in the late 60's and early 70's and learned it's just a pipe dream.

Hatred of tthose who differ in appearance and attitude is a perfectly valid human emotion and is part of the "survival" instinct.

This is impossible because the Christ.. our Lord and Savior represents God in his physical form. The whole idea of Christianity is based on this fact. That's why our country is based on its values.

The freedom of speech perfectly represents what Jesus stood for. If you don't think people should say what they want that goes against what the Lord wanted. He never tried to silence people, he only led them and showed them the errors of their ways.

The Apostles at least represent what Jesus was trying to teach mankind. I would say they are synonymous.

So does the cru. I would say they are synonymous as well.

I have to agree with your agreement.

At least we have one thing we can agree upon. I think agreement is the only way. Lets sit down and figure out an agreement.
