God gets on the ballot in Texas

We read:
"‘Ballot Proposition #4: Public Acknowledgement of God — The use of the word ‘God,’ prayers, and the Ten Commandments should be allowed at public gatherings and public educational institutions, as well as be permitted on government buildings and property.’

Even though it only appears on the Texas Republican Party Primary ballot, non-binding Prop 4 is causing a stir all across the state, including the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.”

Why can't the Republican party deal with REAL issues instead of their constant stream of nonsense?

I am embarrassed as a Republican and a Texan. If you don't want Government meddling in something, you don't invite them in. That goes for healthcare and it goes for religion. Non-binding resolutions are just a giant circle-jerk anyway.

Count your blessings people :).

The alternative to non-binding resolutions like this is having the legislature spending time thinking up new ways to subtly or overtly raise taxes, reduce your liberties or otherwise control your life.

Carl, what you consider nonsense, may be a sincere and important belief to others.

In fact, your comment would be much more accurate if you simply changed the word Republican for Democrat.

What good have the Republicans done in the last year? How have they bettered mankind vs. corporations?

You could ask the same question of the Obama administration.
Why the hate on corporations? What do they do... I mean other than supply you with everything you need to live...including a job. Hate to tell you this but corporations have done far more for people than any goverment program. If it wasn't for corporations we would still be in caves and you lazy ass libs would know the real meaning of work.

When all else fails, deflect from the question. Pathetic.

Well liz may be ashamed, but as an Orthodox Jew, Texan and Republican I am proud of this.

Actually Carl, posing that question to or about the Obama administration is far more relavant since the republicans have not had any power in the last year. The republicans couldn't even filibuster so they certainly didn't have power to "better mankind" or even corporations. Obama and the democrats in congress on the other hand did a whole lot to enrich Wall Street bankers and other huge corporations.
Perhaps you should educate yourself with facts before posting your utter hate and contempt for conservatives (which BTW you do not understand anyways)

Arguing about acknowledging 'God' in a government context is like arguing about how the deckchairs should be arranged on the Titanic !

""What good have the Republicans done in the last year? How have they bettered mankind vs. corporations?" "

---According to Glenn Beck, the Bush tax cuts gave us 48 months of continuous economic grow. Now I'm not saying corporations don't make mistakes, when they fire people for being fat or tell people to quit smoking they are making a huge mistake. But, it is corporations that create jobs, so if you support republicans and they support corporation the result is more jobs.

The republicans aren't perfect, but they're a lot better than the alternative.

Obviously, our system of government requires us to accept the lessor of two evils, either Republican or Democrat. Some day, maybe, we'll grow up and realize what we have allowed them to do to us and our country. "If" that day ever comes, we will no longer have only two political parties to choose from.

Or, things will remain the way they are, proving that politicians and the media, having absolutely no regard for the intelligence of the people, are right. Also, and once again, we will prove that Einstein's definition of true insanity is also correct. We are living proof.

Be happy about your two party system. At least you can affect the outcome by voting. In a multiparty political system like the one we have in Finland it doesn't really matter who you vote for because the end result is going to be the same. The Prime minister is either a left wing conservative or a right wing liberal (although compared to US they are always left wing), and his cabinet is full of other middle-of-the-road politicians who have absolutely no values, ideals, or opinions about anything that someone else might disagree with. There might be some village idiot somewhere who actually stands for something but they are rarely taken seriously and usually end up voting with their party anyway. Then you have your Swedish party who vote with everyone else as long as their language gets special treatment. Year after year, cabinet after cabinet....

Finn, what you're saying is, in the end, the problem is not how many parties there are, but the voters inability to deal with something new and/or different. If that's the case, i agree. People in the US have been so deeply anesthetized by the media and all the phony campaign ads, that they're no longer capable of thinking for themselves. Our current government is a perfect example of that lack of intelligence on the part of the voters.

BTW, i was not aware there was anyone in Finland even close to being a "true" conservative. (liberals/leftists/socialists are NOT conservatives)

The fact remains that the Democrats had 100% power in Congress and in the White House to do any of a number of productive things. But they did nothing, and now they are losing their power.

Remember the Republican's "Contract With America" that they wrote when they gained legislative control? While you may not agree with all of the legislation proposed, the fact remains that they said they would do something, and they did.

Remember George W's administration? Again, while you may not agree with what he did, he consistently came to the public, said he would do something, and he did it.

The current congress and administration have done nothing substantial to benefit America after a year of complete control. This tells me that they have no capability to run the government effectively, but would rather spend their time gloating, posturing, and playing political shell games to try to position themselves in upcoming elections. Unfortunately, they aren't doing what they were elected to fo.

It's about a public that was duped by a campaign fostering change that, in the end, had nothing substantial to give other than change for change sake. We will be paying for this for a long, long time.

I would add, not only did they get nothing productive accomplished, but so much of what they attempted to pass was malevolently destructive. Now they are losing their power, and deservedly so.

By the way, I predict that Ballot Proposition #4 will pass.
