No respect for Freedom of Religion

We read:

"Today, Liberty Counsel filed suit against Lewis Palmer School District on behalf of Erica Corder, a high school valedictorian who was forced to publicly apologize for sharing her Christian faith at graduation. Erica was one of fifteen valedictorians from the Lewis-Palmer High School class of 2006. For the past year, she has been the subject of criticism because the school continues to portray her as a student who engaged in improper conduct because she mentioned Jesus Christ during her speech.

Before graduation in May 2006, Principal Mark Brewer informed the valedictorians that they could choose one student to speak, or that all of them could deliver a 30-second graduation message. The students chose to have all fifteen valedictorians participate and chose a general topic for each speaker. Erica and one other student were chosen to give concluding messages. Each valedictorian orally presented a proposed speech to the principal before graduation.

During her 30-second message Erica spoke about her faith in Jesus Christ. Afterwards, she was escorted to see the assistant principal, who said she would not receive her diploma because of the speech she had given. Principal Brewer later indicated that her comments were "immature." He said that she could only receive her diploma if she apologized to the school community

Conservative sites Blocked in NC Airport

The usual Leftist "Hate speech" accusation against critics of Islam:

"This morning, as I sit in Charlotte/Douglas Airport, I discover that the following web sites are banned at the Airport by their SonicWall firewall:

1. Atlas Shrugged - This site is blocked by the SonicWALL Content Filter Service. URL: Reason for restriction: Forbidden Category "Violence/Hate/Racism"

2. Jihad Watch - This site is blocked by the SonicWALL Content Filter Service.....Reason for restriction: Forbidden Category "Violence/Hate/Racism"

3. Dhimmi Watch - This site is blocked by the SonicWALL Content Filter Service...Reason for restriction: Forbidden Category "Violence/Hate/Racism"

In a peculiar turn of events, I can easily traverse the links to Hamas and Jihadist propaganda sites.

Ohio Democrats PROTECT racial segregation

A return to Jim Crow? It appears that OPPOSING racial segregation is a grave sin in the Democratic party. I guess they would kick Martin Luther King out.

"Like a Communist apparatchik who fell out of favor, Megan Pappada has seen her employment with the Ohio Democratic Party (ODP) quietly erased. The ODP blog post and podcast announcing her hire as Director of Women's Outreach has vanished as quickly as a Soviet political prisoner disappeared forever into the KGB abyss.

Megan Pappada was hired a few weeks ago by the ODP, then she was promptly fired later that same day. According to the ODP overlords, she had committed a grave political thought crime years ago when she was a college freshman: opposing racially segregated on-campus housing. You read that correctly - opposing racial segregation. And she had the audacity to infect others with such thoughts by having them published as a letter to the editor in the Ohio State University student newspaper, The Lantern - several years earlier in 2000. For that thought crime and making her thoughts public, she lost her job and was forced to renounce her past views.

More on the "Opus" Censorship

The Opus Falwell cartoon above:

"A popular comic strip that poked fun at the Rev. Jerry Falwell without incident one week ago was deemed too controversial to run over the weekend because this time it took a humorous swipe at Muslim fundamentalists....

Sources told that the strips were shown to Muslim staffers at The Washington Post to gauge their reaction, and they responded "emotionally" to the depiction of a woman dressed in traditional Muslim garb and espousing conservative Islamic views.

Lago said she flagged some of the syndicate's newspaper clients for two reasons: because of the possibility that the jokes about Islam would be misconstrued and because of the sexual innuendo in the punchline.

As far as whether the Post and the Post Writers Group syndicate treated content about conservative Christians differently than it did content about conservative Muslims, it certainly could be taken that way. "It appears on the surface to be a double standard," Burford said, "but at the same time, the climate of the world probably informs their decision with how to go forward with it."

It is certainly true that the last two frames of the Muslim toon constitute a sexual "innuendo" (indirect reference) but there is any amount of much more direct references to sex in the media, and government schools even push porn onto kids these days -- so identifying those two frames as a problem is a blatant attempt at deception. It was clearly fear of Muslim irrationality that was the sole and only problem.

And that Christians are NOT to be feared is why the Falwell toon was not seen as a problem. All of which shows that even those who preach it don't believe the Leftist lie that Islamists and Christians are equally dangerous

More "Blame the Victim" from a Muslim

Writing on the Leftist "Media Monitors" site, a Mr Akbar says:

"There is a new racist dogma that is taking hold in this country that if allowed to fester any further will result in the greater marginalization of minority groups and increase the prevalent atmosphere of fear and mistrust. The most glaring manifestation of this phenomenon is the unbalanced and intellectually impoverished discourse about Islam and American Muslims.

America's last accepted form of racism tolerates statements about Muslims that would be unacceptable if referring to other groups. In this paradigm multiculturalism is a threat to the foundations of democracy and those voices who espouse a contrary view are opposed to freedom of speech. The great American melting pot is conspicuously thrown to the wayside.

Leftists are supposed to believe in "root causes" (though the only root cause they ever seem to mention is their all-purpose explanation: "poverty") so maybe Mr Akbar might ask himself what the root cause of adverse statements about Muslims could be. It wouldn't be the constant vicious deeds of Muslims worldwide (like this) would it? And I guess it was Baptists who flew those planes into two New York skyscrapers.

As black writer Bob Parks said a little while ago:

"Tell you what, I'll say to some of these Muslims the same thing I've said to some black people. If you want the negative stigma to go away, BEHAVE YOURSELVES! Intimidating people is a choice. Blowing people up is a choice. It is not a calling. When it becomes one, that gives us the situation we have now. Pointing that out is not racist. Calling it such is."

The total cynicism of the protests against "Islamophobia" really is breathtaking. If law-abiding and peaceful Muslims are really upset, they should be directing their condemnation towards their fellow Muslims who do the vile deeds that bring Islam into disrepute -- as these guys did..
Hate Speech from Obama's Black Church

We read:

"It is often difficult to see it in his speeches and his surprising level of support among liberal whites but Democratic Party presidential contender Barack Obama belongs to a Chicago church which preaches a militant "Black Liberation Theology" which is increasingly drawing media attention.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright frequently peppers his sermons withreferences to the "United States of White America" and the dangers of "white arrogance." Indeed, the motto of Trinity United Church of Christ is "Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian." As Obama maintains a strong second place in the race for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, increasing attention is being paid to the church with some white editorial writers suggesting he should disassociate himself from the church.

Try switching around "white" and "black" in the quotes above.

Truth about Islam is Offensive

From the Leftist "Media Matters":

"On the August 8 broadcast of 630 KHOW-AM's The Peter Boyles Show, guest host Lou Pate joined a caller in denigrating Muslims and the Islamic faith. Pate asserted that Muslims "don't respect women at all" and joked that "they're a peaceful, benevolent, kind people, the Muslims are ... [I]f they like you, they'll cut your head off with one swing instead of a jagged edge that takes seven or eight."

Pate also agreed with the caller's description of the Muslim community as "a sick race"; said the "Muslim community ... [is] a violent community," adding, "They have honor killings ... that they condone. They will kill ... their own wives; they will kill their own daughters"; and claimed that "genital mutilation [is] quite common there."

As Colorado Media Matters noted, while guest-hosting the January 26 broadcast of Newsradio 850 KOA's The Gunny Bob Show, Pate also repeatedly denigrated Muslims, claiming that Islam is "a violent religion" that "condones the killing of innocents."

Seems to me that news reports confirm almost daily the truth of what Pate said (Latest here). But according to Arab American News it is "hate speech".

Let me coin a slogan here: "Truthful speech is not hate speech"
Must not Joke about the Shakedown King

We read:

"A longtime employee of the Ohio Republican Party will be disciplined for electronically forwarding a racist joke about the Rev. Jesse Jackson, according to the party's chairman....

The e-mail, in part, said the following: "Jesse Jackson got out of the shower and was drying off when he looked in the mirror and noticed he was white from the neck up to the top of his head. In sheer panic and fearing he was turning white and might have to start working for a living, he called his doctor and told him of his problem." It went on to say that the doctor ordered Jackson to drink brown liquid because he was "a quart low" on "bull - - - -."

Golliwog Update

Further to my report of 20th., we read that buyers are rushing the Gollies:

"A Brisbane hospital pharmacy is still selling golliwog dolls in its gift shop despite outrage from indigenous communitv leaders. The Atrium Plaza Pharmacy at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital had to replenish supplies of the black Golly Molly doll.

The pharmacy manager declined to comment other than to say: "If you read the blog on your (The Sunday Mail) website, you will see the support we have received."

Aboriginal community elder and spokesman Sam Watson said the buying frenzy was "unbelievable ... It's absolutely appalling and says a great deal about the mentality of those consumers who flocked to pay for the horrible things".

Muslims Stop Christian TV Show

We read:

"A CBS television station in Tampa, Fla., has announced it is taking the ongoing "Live Prayer with Bill Keller" program, on the airwaves since 2003, off after the local chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations complained of the religious views Keller expressed.

CAIR-Tampa issued a statement that "WTOG-TV (CS44) dropped 'Live Prayer' after the station and its parent company CBS received a letter from and had discussions with the Islamic civil rights and advocacy group." ....

Bill Keller said: 'Islam is a 1,400-year-old lie from the pits of hell. It's leading a billion peoples [sic] to hell ... those who follow this false religion will die and be lost for all eternity.' On the same program, he also said, 'The false religion of Islam is about hate, lies and death,'" the letter said.

Keller, since beginning his Live Prayer Internet ministry in 1999, has criticized Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses as well as Scientologists.

Keller was simply doing what true believers have always done -- assert the truth of their own beliefs. What he said sounds in fact very much like what Muslims routinely say about THEIR beliefs. If Muslims can say that Christians are all doomed, why cannot a Christian say that Muslims are all doomed?
The "She-Devil" Replies

On 20th I noted the accusation from Pretty Boy Edwards saying that Ann Coulter is a "she-devil". I predicted that she would be more amused by it than anything else and so it has proved to be. Her comment:

"I think being called a she-devil by a trial lawyer is meant as a compliment. I thank him for that. But I just want to take, you know, the opportunity with this show to say, "No, John I will not date you." .....

And by the way, I would never call him a she-devil, though I might call him a she....

I am inclined to agree with her that Edwards is rather effeminate but "effeminate" is probably a wicked word these days too.
Will he get Away with it?

Jeremy Clarkson is probably Britain's most incorrect writer but he is known for humorous exaggeration so I think the thought police have given up on him. He certainly sprays his slurs far and wide. But maybe there are some serious arguments lurking there. He is very popular. I think he puts in an exaggerated way what lots of Brits think but fear to say:

"And then came the latest migration figures, which showed that while Britain received 5.4 billion west African pickpockets last year, we lost what the Daily Mail calls 196,000 British citizens. White, middle-class families who have moved abroad.....

Australia is where you go when you've made a mess of everything. That's why the 1.3m Brits who live there are known as whingeing Poms. Because they're all failures....

But mostly, I suspect the people who move from Britain to the States do so because they are interested in guns and murdering. Twice I've bumped into expats while in America and both times they were wandering around in woods carrying preposterously large guns and wearing combat fatigues

The fact is, I'm afraid, that anyone who emigrates from Britain, no matter where they end up, is a bit of a dimwit.

Clarkson is a lot like an American shock jock but he is in fact a motoring writer in The Times -- the most prestigious national daily.

The Banned "Opus" Cartoon

The Sunday cartoonist "Opus" is no conservative but he has just let himself go enough to joke a little about Islam. Bad move! A lot of papers that normally take it will not run this Sunday's cartoon. I have reproduced it above.

There is a full-size version here

As you can see, it is not in fact laughing at Islam. It is laughing at his fellow Berkeleyites, if anything.

Nor is it saying anything controversial about Islam. Muslims themselves make no secret of the subordinate role of women in their society.

But lots of American newspapers are just too uptight to run any humor that involves Islam. Story here
Severe Limits on Telling the Truth about Islam

Black American Bob Parks comments:

"The column in question was about Geert Wilders of the "right-wing Freedom Party" in the Netherlands who called for a ban on the Qu'ran. According to the piece I cited, "He would also outlaw the book's use in the mosque and at home. Mr Wilders says the Qu'ran (Koran) is a fascist book which promotes violence and is similar to Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf."

I was called intolerant and even a racist by people both in the Netherlands as well as here in America. I predicted Mr. Wilders would subsequently have problems buying a life insurance policy after his remarks, and sure enough, he received the customary death threats.

I have dipped into both the Koran and Mein Kampf myself and find that Mein Kampf is actually the more civilized of the two -- so what is being criticized here is a perfectly reasonable comment. They cannot argue reasonably against the comment because the violent and intolerant passages in the Koran are really there so irrelevant accusations of "racism" and threats are the best they can do.

Take the comment in Sura 4:89 about Non-Muslims: "They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them" Even Hitler was not that blunt -- though he was just as genocidal in practice, of course.

The above passage is in my copy of the Koran and my copy was printed in India under the auspices of the Nizam of Hyderabad so I am pretty sure I have not been misled by a neocon plot.

I myself don't favor banning either the Koran or Mein Kampf but if you are going to ban the one the same principles should cause the other to be banned too. There is no end to the slaughters of Christians that have been carried out by Muslims. And Hitler's book IS banned in the Netherlands and in Germany.

Hooray for the Chinese Jew!

Jew by surname but not by heritage:

"A single vote by a San Francisco Board of Supervisors member whose grandfather emigrated from China seven decades ago has halted in its tracks a proposal to condemn as "hate speech" radio personality Michael Savage's criticism of illegal aliens in the United States.

The vote tonight was 9-1, with third generation San Franciscan Ed Jew turning in the veto vote, after getting up and affirming Savage's First Amendment right to express his opinion.

Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval had introduced a resolution condemning the radio talker. After the vote, he called for the tally to be rescinded and the proposal sent to committee, which essentially is a polite way of letting the issue die.

"For the record, I do not agree with comments allegedly made by Mr. Savage, but the First Amendment gives him the right to make those comments," Jew said....

Earlier, one of the nation's top civil rights attorneys offered his assistance to Savage in suing Sandoval. Daniel A. Horowitz of Oakland, Calif., wrote to Savage after Sandoval introduced his resolution.

"You have a strong federal civil rights action that you can file against Supervisor Sandoval and the city of San Francisco," he advised. "You have a constitutional right to state your political opinions and no city official has the right to lie about what you said or to call for a mob to come to your door to threaten you and to try to have you fired."

Horowitz said the Civil Rights Act of 1871, designed to tame the terror of the Ku Klux Klan, can be used as the basis for a federal civil rights action against the official and the city. "You are protected by this civil rights act...."

Humorless attack on Apple Advertisement

Is there anything that someone will not find fault with?

"Apple's new IMAC Campagin states that, "You can't be too thin. Or too powerful." The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness calls upon Apple to rethink their new media campaign. In society in which 7 -10 million Americans are struggling with eating disorders, and messages from the media are influential and they do make a difference, The Alliance questions, "Is Apple taking a revamping of the Duchess of Windsor's adage a step to far?"

Surely the time must come when the oddballs of the world have to make allowances for others being different.

Severe Limits on Speech in Canada

There is a recent summary from a legal source here of Canadian speech law. It is amazingly restrictive. Canada's constitutional provisions protecting free speech are arguably stronger than the U.S. 1st Amendment but Canadian courts have been even more scornful of their constitution than SCOTUS has been of the U.S. constitution. One of the legal provisions that the Canadian courts permit is quite amazing:

Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act prohibits the communication, including the Internet, of messages that are likely to expose a person to hatred or contempt.

And you thought hatred was loosely defined! In Canada just contempt is illegal. And it doesn't have to be actual contempt either. It can be just "likely" to cause contempt. And it does not even have to affect some group. It may even affect just "a person". Almost any negative utterance at all would seem to be covered.

So if I say (and I do) that Canadians are deeply Fascist as judged by their speech laws, I am sure that I am likely to cause some Canadian to be regarded with contempt by that. I imagine that quite a lot of my readers will feel contempt for Canada after reading this, in fact. So I have clearly broken Canadian law.

They might have a job extraditing me from Australia, though. This post would not be illegal in Australia. One has to feel rather sorry for the muzzled people of the icy North.

But we all know that they will not bother me for speaking ill of Canada. It is certain privileged groups that they work for, not Canadians as a whole. So let me speak some forbidden truth about one of those extra-special groups: Homosexuals are abnormal and deviant and are doomed to shorter lives by the adverse health effects of their typical practices. They are a biological futility and dead-end. Let the Canadian Schutz Staffeln chew on that one!
Update on the ADL Holocaust Denial

There is an extensive article here. One excerpt:

"In his letter, Boyajian objected to the sponsorship by the Town of Watertown, Massachusetts, of ADL’s anti-racist program — "No Place for Hate" - at a time when the latter’s Director was making disparaging remarks on the Armenian Genocide. In response to letters from several other readers, Boston area newspapers provided extensive coverage of this controversy and published editorials critical of Foxman and the ADL. The Watertown Town Council then held a hearing and, by a unanimous vote, decided to disassociate itself from the "No Place for Hate" program due to its affiliation with ADL. Other Massachusetts cities are considering a similar action.

So the ADL is clearly undermining its own objectives by their disgraceful indifference to Christian suffering. Perhaps it's a sort of justice that one of the world's most intelligent groups (American Jews) are so politically stupid. Despite the extensive antisemitism on the modern-day Left, over 80% of American Jews still vote Democrat in national elections. Can you beat that for stupidity?

And in case anybody wants to call me antisemitic for saying that, let me remind them of a favorite Leftist mantra: Criticism of Israel is perfectly legitimate. By the same rule, criticism of American Jews is perfectly legitimate too. Criticisms of Israel can be intended to help Israel (and I myself join with many Jews in saying that the Olmert government is betraying Israel) and criticisms of American Jews can be intended to help them too. And it would clearly gain American Jews respect if they did their best for the Armenians. And it would certainly do the ADL a lot of good if they got rid of their anti-Christian boss -- Abe Foxman.

Foxman has in fact just backed down and acknowledged that it was indeed a genocide that the Muslim Turks unleashed on the Christian Armenians but the backdown was so grudging and forced that it does him no credit. And the big question that remains is: Will the ADL put its weight behind ongoing Congressional moves to recognize that genocide? Don't hold your breath. Foxman's typically Leftist hatred of Christians trumps all else.

I seem to be in a particularly plain-speaking mood today. It's lucky I don't live in Canada!

Florida: Incorrect to Depict Common Black Realities?

We read:

"An editorial cartoon in last Friday's Florida Times-Union depicting a gunman wearing a T-shirt saying "Don't Snitch" continues to draw criticism, with some black leaders calling for an apology, the firing of the cartoonist and other demands.

Two young children drawn in the cartoon say "I didn't see nuttin'!" Then the gunman says, "Now that's a good little ho!

In a letter sent to all Jacksonville television stations as well as the newspaper, the Jacksonville Leadership Coalition called the cartoon "racist, culturally insensitive and degrading to African-American women."

We must not mention that black men regularly call black women "hos"? Or must we not mention that "don't snitch" is a major commandment among many blacks?

Some gang members even wear t-shirts that forbid snitching.
BBC: Incorrect to Depict Muslim Realities?

We read:

"The BBC has dropped plans to show a fictional terror attack in an episode of Casualty to avoid offending Muslims.

The first show of the hospital drama's new series was to have featured a storyline about an explosion caused by Islamic extremists.

Muslim horrors must not be mentioned but you can make up all the horrors you like about Lady Thatcher of course. But it is a long time since the BBC was concerned about reality at all.

BBC Deception again

Carol Thatcher, daughter of Margaret Thatcher, comments on a new BBC drama:

"Produced by a company called Great Meadow, this drama - entitled The Long Walk To Finchley - has one crucial passage. Set in the early 1950s, when she was looking for a Conservative seat in Parliament, my mother is shown in a foul-mouthed tirade against the party's top brass. "F**king Establishment!" she rails, after being turned down as a candidate in one constituency.

This fictionalised incident would be laughable were it not so offensive.... Neither the writer nor the production company seems to have the slightest understanding of my mother's character and of the moral climate of the early Fifties. If they can make such an elementary howler, what chance is there for the entire nature of the production? The idea that my mother would go around swearing after a personal setback is ridiculous. Any writer who thinks that must have a very shallow grasp of her personality and her background.

Woman Arrested for Practicing her Religion

It's a fruitcake religion but ...

"A 42-year-old woman who describes herself as a Wiccan faces charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after neighbors complained she was disturbing them with chants around a bonfire she had built 10 feet from her home.

Capt. Mike Babe said Brenna K. Barney of Waukesha told police they were infringing on her religious beliefs since she was performing a ritual under the new moon.

But Babe said that, in addition to the criminal charges filed Tuesday in Waukesha County Circuit Court, police might also give Barney a ticket alleging negligent handling of burning materials.

It would be an interesting 1st Amendment case. Muslims are given lots of leeway in what they do. How about Wiccans?

More BBC Hate Speech

We read:

"The BBC has been forced to remove statements from its website referring to Jesus as a 'bastard'. It is the latest in a string of offensive comments that BBC editors have allowed members of the public to post.... The comments were allowed to remain for a week despite complaints. But after The Mail on Sunday contacted senior BBC officials, they were deleted....

One website user wanted to see if BBC editors were allowing these offensive remarks to remain while blocking others. He wrote: "No one can surpass the Muslims for denial of their role in Terrorism and Suicide bombing." The remarks were almost immediately deleted.

The BBC has also been criticised for allowing allegedly anti-Semitic posts from a contributor called "Iron Naz'. In a message left on the site for more than a month, Iron Naz says: "Zionism is a racist ideology where jews are given supremacy over all other races and faiths. This is found in the Talmud...which allows jews to lie as long as its to non-jews."

The remarks brought complaints from the Board of Deputies, the organisation that represents Britain's Jews and its Community Security Trust. They say the post draws on a discredited 19th Century text, the Talmud Unmasked, which is still distributed by neo-Nazi booksellers. However, the BBC said the remarks did not merit removal.

"Islam = good; Homosexuals = good; Christianity = bad; Israel = bad" is the BBC formula. And they accuse conservatives of being simple-minded!
ADL denies the Armenian Genocide

Yes. The Jewish anti-defamation league are now Holocaust deniers, quite incredibly. Their hypocrisy is stripped bare here. Like most Jews, the ADL are very Leftist and if this is not testimony to how badly Leftism warps people's thinking, I don't know what would be.
Naughty comment on Chinese drivers

From Australia:

"Radio veteran John Laws could be facing more complaints after saying Chinese drivers are the worst in the world. The Ethnic Communities Council of NSW yesterday condemned as "unfair and unhelpful" the latest tirade by Laws, who after 55 years as a radio presenter is three months from retirement.

Laws's comments came after a Chinese-Australian listener called Helen called Sydney's 2UE yesterday to discuss her recent fine for failing to pay the Cross City Tunnel toll. When asked by Laws why she had not paid the toll, she pleaded that she didn't know there was a toll.

When Helen said she was from China, Laws replied: "I understand that Chinese drivers are probably the worst drivers on the face of the Earth." "You probably fall into that category, along with the rest of them."

I have not myself noticed that Chinese drivers are particularly bad but that may be because I am even worse! I have however often heard people say that Chinese are bad drivers so there may be some truth in it. But in the absence of proof, it's just an opinion. And we ARE allowed opinions -- so far.

There is an amusing video of a Chinese driver here. The dialog is in Chinese but just pay attention to the opening scene.

Edwards Calls Coulter 'She-Devil'

We read:

"ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: Former Sen. John Edwards on Friday fired the latest round in his ongoing verbal feud with Ann Coulter, calling her a "she-devil" at a public event before quickly adding that he shouldn't engage in name-calling.

Edwards, D-N.C., was railing against the right-wing media -- including Fox News and Rush Limbaugh -- when he reminded a crowd in Burlington, Iowa, that his wife stood up to Coulter in a public spat earlier this summer.

"We know these people. We know their game plan. They're going to attack us personally," Edwards said. "They attacked Elizabeth personally, because she stood up to that she-devil Ann Coulter. . I should not have name-called. But the truth is -- forget the names -- people like Ann Coulter, they engage in hateful language."

To call a Christian lady a "she-devil" sounds like hate speech to me -- but we all know it is only Christians and conservatives who can utter hate speech.

On balance I am rather pleased to see that Ann has gotten so far under Pretty Boy's skin. A reminder of Ann's most famous comment about Edwards: "It turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I'm kind of at an impasse -- I can't really talk about Edwards," she said. So she was slightly less direct in applying a naughty word to him than he was in applying an abusive word to her.

I am sure she will be more amused than anything, though. She might even identify herself as a she-devil henceforth. It reminds me of why British and Australian journalists sometimes refer to themselves as "reptiles". The term "reptiles of the press" was applied to them in a British satirical magazine ("Private Eye") as a form of abuse but, rather than being crushed by the term, the journalists loved it and have used it ever since.

Pic above from An Englishman's View
Golliwogs in Trouble again

A traditional children's soft toy in Britain and Australia. I had one myself as a kid and liked it. Many kids have been quite devoted to their golliwogs. They ARE a caricature of Africans (see the comparison above) so are people not allowed to like African features?

"Golliwogs are being sold at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and Aboriginal elders say they perpetuate racist images of black people, and want them removed and destroyed. The "Golly Molly" dolls with large red lips, frizzy hair and brightly coloured clothes are on display in the window of the Atrium Plaza Pharmacy in the foyer of the public hospital.

"This is absolutely appalling and an enormous insult . . . the people responsible for them should be sacked immediately," said Aboriginal community elder and spokesman Sam Watson.

Mr Watson and Aboriginal activist Stephen Hagan said they would lodge complaints with the Anti-Discrimination and Human Rights and Equal Opportunity commissions.

Mr Hagan, who lobbied for the word "nigger" to be removed from a Toowoomba sports stand and is pushing for Coon cheese to be renamed, said the dolls needed to be destroyed and banned.

The Indonesian-made dolls are sold for $14.95 and $19.95, and are supplied by Robina-based company Bocchetta Plush Toys. Company co-owner Linda Bocchetta said the outrage was "silly". "We have never had anyone with an issue over these dolls," she said. "There are quite a few Australian companies making them. We are not the only ones."

An Atrium Plaza Pharmacy spokesman, who asked not to be named, said there had been no negativity towards the dolls since they were first stocked in November last year. "The purchasers of the dolls usually express a feeling of warmth and affection, as they often rekindle happy childhood memories," he said.

Amusing that the people objecting are Australian Aborigines, not Africans. Aborigines are a quite different race who look quite different from Africans. Only the dark skin is in common. See below:

I reported a British disturbance over golliwogs on March 4, 2006 (Second post down).

California: Mocking Illegals is "Hate Speech"?

We read:

"An appointee of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger resigned abruptly Thursday after the Governor's Office learned that he had reprinted an image of a faux illegal-immigrant driver's license that Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata called "hate speech."

Sam Wakim, also a candidate for the state Assembly in 2008, was appointed by the governor to the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board last November. He posted the mock license on his personal Web site operated under the pseudonym "Abu David" in 2005.

"I think it's appalling for someone who's supposed to represent the public as a board member of a public agency to be engaging in hate speech," Perata said in a statement. "Mr. Wakim's Web postings clearly cross the boundaries of acceptable public discourse."

Any negativity at all is "hate" to Leftists these days -- unless you are talking about Christians, conservatives, G.W. Bush or Israel, of course.
"Wogs" OK in Australia

We read:

"Australia becoming a country of wogs - and it is OK to say so. The federal Arts Minister, George Brandis, said yesterday that calling someone a "wog" is no longer considered offensive or racist because Australians are better at laughing at themselves. "It is a badge of arrival when a racial group can tell a joke against itself," he said.

But the Liberal MP Teresa Gambaro, the Assistant Minister for Immigration whose parents hail from the southern Italian region of Calabria, said using the word depended on the situation. "I wouldn't like a complete stranger to call me a wog. I think I'd be quite offended then."

Senator Brandis is probably best known for pointing out how similar Greenie policies are to the policies of Hitler. See also here on that.

Historically, the term "wog" was applied to poor immigrants from Southern Europe but people from Southern Europe are now so prosperous and well assimilated into the general Australian society that they actually run the parliament of Australia's most populous State (NSW). And some Australians of Southern European origin do now cheerfully describe themselves as "wogs".

All of which goes to show that for an ethnic description to be derogatory and offensive, there has to be some adverse reality behind it. If there is in fact nothing inferior or discreditable about the group concerned, words describing that group ("Redneck" is a good U.S. example) will have little power to offend.

Legislation Would Allow Salute to the Flag

It needs a law??

"Legislation sponsored by U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (S.1877) clarifies U.S. law to allow veterans and servicemen not in uniform to salute the flag. Current law (US Code Title 4, Chapter 1) states that veterans and servicemen not in uniform should place their hand over their heart without clarifying whether they can or should salute the flag. The bill passed in the Senate recently by unanimous consent.

Muslim leaders in India condemn attack on Taslima Nasreen -- and call for an end to free speech

We read:

"Muslim leaders and intellectuals today strongly condemned the attack on controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, terming the incident as "shameful" and "barbaric". "The incident was outrageous and shameful. In a civilised society, you have a right to approve or disapprove of anything," noted lyricist and author Javed Akhtar said.

Delhi Minorities Commission chairperson Kamal Farooqui said the incident was condemnable, specially as three MLAs were involved in it. But, he said, the government should also ensure that Nasreen is not allowed to do or write anything which hurts the sentiments of Muslims. "The government should immediately cancel her visa and make her go out of the country," he said, adding, "she should realise that this is not Bangladesh or Pakistan, but India where the sentiments of all communities are respected."

"Offensive" to Say Anything Negative about Lesbians

We read:

"Britain's bestselling crime writer found himself condemned as "offensive" by a leading female rival yesterday after suggesting that women authors, and gay ones in particular, are more bloodthirsty than men. The acclaimed writer of the Inspector Rebus novels said in an interview last year: "The people writing the most graphic novels today are women. They are mostly lesbians as well, which I find interesting."

Speaking to an audience at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Val McDermid quoted the remark almost word for word, attributing it to "a very prominent Scottish male writer". She then dismissed it as "arrant rubbish". The author, who is a lesbian, added: "I find that statement so offensive, I can't even begin to start"

Note that there is no attempt to present evidence one way or another -- just an emotional response. Reminiscent of the response to Harvard's Larry Summers. And women don't want men to think of them as emotional and illogical!
Saying "Learn English" is Racist?

People of all races speak English:

"This Californian babe just might have copped her last look at Sydney's Opera House after the reality TV star launched a racist attack on a Sydney McDonald's employee over her McFlurry order.

The 19-year-old star of the MTV hit show The Real World: Sydney, filmed late last year, has infuriated the Asian Australian community and been panned by US audiences after a recent episode showed her demanding an Asian cashier at the Bondi McDonald's "learn English".

"I'm like, well I'd take the f....n' Crunchie one but I don't know what it tastes like because you wouldn't give me a sample," Trisha Cummings said.

"I'm like, you know what, keep the money, maybe take some English lessons - I'm leaving cause you don't know how to speak English," she said.

Shop assistants who don't understand you can be very frustrating.

Loony Dutch Bishop wants to Replace "God" by "Allah"

This may not have made any English language publications yet but Bishop Muskens of Breda in the Netherlands wants to scrap the word God and use the word Allah instead because it would be a nice gesture to Muslims. "Why can't we all have the same name together" he mused in an interview.

The God of Love and the God of Jihad are one and the same, of course.
"Bitch" not Allowed in Politics?

From Australia:

"The federal Liberal Party [conservatives] has dumped its candidate for the Melbourne seat of Maribyrnong in a bid to head off a political furore over his description of a female Victorian cabinet minister as a "bitch".

Hamish Jones made the offensive outburst against [Leftist] Victorian minister and senior female politician Lynne Kosky on his internet blog site.

Labor, which is running union leader Bill Shorten as its candidate for Maribyrnong, in Melbourne's western suburbs, had been preparing to publicly call on John Howard today to disown Mr Jones.

Canadian Homosexuality Critic in Court

In Canada, it is safer to advocate Islamic barbarism than it is to criticise homosexuality:

"Under "hate-crimes" laws, could pastors risk jail time and big fines for expressing the biblical view of homosexuality? Absolutely. Just ask Stephen Boissoin, a Canadian pastor who wrote a letter in June to the editor of his local newspaper calling the homosexual agenda "wicked."

"From kindergarten class on," he wrote, "our children, your grandchildren are being strategically targeted, psychologically abused and brainwashed by homosexual and pro-homosexual educators."

The letter caught the attention of a human-rights activist at the University of Calgary, who filed a complaint of "hate-mongering" against Boissoin. The professor pointed to the case of a young homosexual who was beaten up two weeks later as evidence that such expressions incite violence.

Boissoin, who said he was just trying to create "spirited debate," now faces charges before the Alberta Human Rights Commission. He could be fined by the commission and referred to a court for criminal proceedings. Canada added "sexual orientation" as a cause for hate-crime prosecution under a new federal law in 2004.

The case will be decided next month. More background here
Australia's Incorrect Military again

We read:

"Flippant references to binge drinking by soldiers, foul language and racist remarks about Jews, Aborigines and Lebanese feature in emails being circulated among Australian Defence Force officers. One email complains falsely that refugees receive more than twice the amount of government assistance as aged pensioners.

The leaking of the emails to The Australian follows the posting of a video on the YouTube website showing drunken soldiers skolling alcohol through a tube and vomiting.

While ADF commanders condemned the behaviour of the soldiers, Defence Minister Brendan Nelson dismissed it as "a bit of larrikin irreverence".

Two emails circulating in the ADF are parodies of red and amber cards distributed to soldiers which set out rules of engagement for opening fire.

A red card is headed: "Escalated Piss-Ups in Town - Feeling Drunk and Bullet Proof." An amber card gives mock advice on "Unopposed Platoon Pub Crawls".

"While your commander will normally issue the first round, he may in fact be either too drunk already or Jewish," one email states.

"You are not to back away unless a Leb is calling reinforcements on his mobile."

Another email suggests it would be amusing for soldiers to pretend to Aborigines that they were members of the Ku Klux Klan.

Purse-mouthed Leftists are frothing about it of course so it is good to see that Australia's conservative government has a more level-headed view of it. The Defence Minister is absolutely correct in seeing it as an example of the great Australian tradition of "Larrikinism".

Arizona: Sheriff Arpaio is "Racist" for Tracking Down Illegal Immigrants

We read:

"Arpaio is speaking about the Latino activists who have condemned a hotline he established to receive tips about illegal immigration. Hispanic community leaders say that Arpaio is involved in a form of racial profiling. They've established hotlines of their own that they hope will highlight abuses.

"I don't understand why they are going after me," he said. "We got 1,100 calls (on the hotline), and we arrested eight people the other day. If I was abusing the hotline, with that may calls, we would have been knocking down doors and everything. But we are very careful. We don't just go around grabbing someone who is trimming palm trees and all of that. . . . You don't respond to every tip. If we get probable cause like we do on every other case, then OK."

That's not how the activists see it. State Rep. Steve Gallardo, one of those leading the effort against Arpaio, told The Republic, "We need this hotline taken down. This hotline is solely set up for racial profiling. ... We need Sheriff Joe Arpaio to do his job in enforcing the laws without using race as the sole purpose of trying to determine if someone is here illegally."

Their big, public protest is helping to boost the exposure for a hotline that most people didn't even know existed.

"Islander" Incorrect

In recent decades, a lot of Polynesians from places like the Cook Islands have migrated to New Zealand. Since the Maori are also Polynesians, they probably feel more at home in New Zealand than they would do elsewhere. They are however regarded as a distinct ethnic group with their own "problems".

On my Education Watch blog I recently put up a post about New Zealand that mentioned the Pacific Islanders. Bad! One of the people the post mentioned, Liz Keneti, read the post and left a comment on the blog saying that "Pacific Islander" is an offensive term to the people concerned. They must be referred to as "Pacific People"

Since I live only a few miles from the Pacific, I guess I am one of the Pacific People too. Or am I missing something? I'm definitely not a Polynesian but I imagine I am not supposed to mention that. That would be "racist", wouldn't it? So I guess I AM one of the Pacific People. Confusing, though.

What's wrong with living on an island anyway? Life on Pacific islands is rather idealized by many Westerners. I myself know of nothing more beautiful than a coral cay. Australia has some good ones (e.g. Green Island, near where I grew up in Far North Queensland) and they are very popular tourist destinations.

Even Silence can be Incorrect

In the USA:

"A Texas family is suing Gov. Rick Perry and a school district over a state-mandated moment of silence in schools, according to The Dallas Morning News. David Wallace Croft and his wife, Shannon, of Carrollton, Texas, have three children at Rosemeade Elementary and argue that the moment of silence is unconstitutional and amounts to state-sanctioned school prayer.

The couple has a history of complaints against religious-affiliated words and images in schools, having previously complained about Boy Scout rallies held during school, fliers sent home about Good News Bible Club meetings and the inclusion of "Silent Night" and a Hanukkah song in holiday concerts, according to report.

Krista Moody, a spokeswoman for Perry, said the moment of silence law that the Crofts filed a suit against on March 1, 2006, was passed in 2003 and calls for students to observe a moment of silence after reciting pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags each day... Moody said the beauty behind the freedom of the law is children get to do with the moment what they wish. There are no guidelines behind the silence.

In Belgium:

"The Brussels mayor, the Socialist Freddy Thielemans, has, on 9th of August 2007 sent out a press release in which he has banned a demonstration featuring a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of 9/11 on the 11th Sept in Brussels. The reason for the prohibition is that he says he cannot guarantee public safety and that he does not wish to disturb the Islamic section of the population in Brussels.

Not Allowed to Mock Insensitivity

Wow! You can't win! The do-gooders are always telling us how bad "insensitivity" is and always condemn it vociferously but when a TV comedy show subjects insensitivity to mockery that is wrong too -- or so Australia's public broadcaster is learning:

"Advocacy groups are angry the first episode of the ABC's Summer Heights High contains a "rape joke" and cruel references to the handicapped. They want the references cut before the show airs next month.

The mockumentary's rape joke comes when a teacher says the school playground once had huge bushes. "But we had a girl raped behind them, so we had them removed and the kids have done an anti-rape mural, which is nice," he says.

The ABC's TV head of arts, entertainment and comedy, Courtney Gibson, said the target of the humour was the teacher, whose "bigotry and prejudices are exposed."

It actually doesn't even sound all that insensitive to me. A bit thick, perhaps, but do we have to wail every time we mention something unpleasant?

Florida business tenant loses lease because he doesn't speak ... Spanish

We read:

"Tom McKenna is a longtime Stuart businessman who speaks only English. He says that's why he's being kicked out of the storefront on South Dixie Highway where he has run Seacoast Water Care for seven years. "I don't know how else to put it," said McKenna, 51. I'm not sure I do either.

On July 5 - the day after Independence Day - McKenna received a letter from landlord Ivan Munroe telling him to consider another location. Munroe said in his letter he wants to have "quality tenants serving the Spanish need in the area." "I guess I don't serve the 'Spanish need,' whatever that means," McKenna said. "I have plenty of Spanish-speaking workers come in here to buy water for their landscaping crews," he said. "And people in the neighborhood use the vending machines out front to fill their water bottles for their homes." .....

Munroe is a private business owner, and he can do anything he wants with his property including fulfill his "vision." But there's a double standard, and I don't think Munroe is a villain as much as he's the symptom of a bigger societal ill: Try telling a minority business owner to leave so you can bring in a quality tenant to serve the need of the English-speaking population.

You'd have activists organizing protests so quickly it'd make the annual snowbird migration seem slow. McKenna said it's going to cost between $10,000 and $15,000 to move - assuming he can even find another storefront in 30 days. And he knows he's going to lose some of the customers he's served for seven years.

Tintin faces racism challenge in Belgium

We read:

"A Congolese student has launched legal action in Belgium to have the comic book "Tintin in the Congo" declared racist and removed from bookstores. The book portrays Africans as stereotypical black characters and shows whites as their colonial masters.

"I want to put an end to sales of this cartoon book in shops, both for children and for adults. It's racist and it is filled with colonial-era propaganda," said Mbutu Mondondo Bienvenu, who lives in Brussels....

A call by Britain's Commission for Racial Equality earlier this year for bookstores to remove the Tintin edition from their shelves prompted one chain to move the book from its children's section to the shelves for adult graphic stories. Sales of the book in Britain subsequently shot up.

Britain Censors Milbloggers

When U.S. authoritias tried a similar stunt with a similar rationale, there was a big outcry that forced a substantial backdown. But the British are used to doing as they are told:

"New guidelines have been issued to all members of the Armed Forces to ensure that they receive proper authorisation before divulging their thoughts and experiences in internet blogs, chat rooms and other forms of communicating with the public.

The dramatic rise in new technological ways of bursting into print has forced the Ministry of Defence to remind servicemen and women to beware of saying anything that might breach or compromise operational security.

The guidelines, which have been circulated to all three Armed Forces, embrace everything from YouTube videos to blogs. The decision to update existing guidelines to include the new forms of technology followed the publication of the report by Tony Hall, the former head of BBC News and now chief executive of the Royal Opera House, into the MoD's handling of the media after the release of the 15 sailors and Marines who were seized and detained by Iran.

"B-word" Now under Fire

We read:

"Black activists in America recently held a mock funeral, complete with wooden coffin, to mark the demise of the hated racist slur known as the "N-word". Now they have begun campaigning to purge the much-used "B-word" from the language.

New York City Council, which declared a moratorium on the word "nigger" in March, is now debating a similar symbolic ban on the word "bitch". "Some young ladies have no self-esteem. If you call some of them that, that means a lifetime of hurt - the same way as if you say the `N-word' to someone," said Darlene Mealy, the Brooklyn councilwoman behind the proposal.

The battle over insults is part of a wider culture war sparked by the spread of hip-hop music, with its obscenity laced lyrics. Black rappers such as Snoop Dogg and Missy Elliott have long referred to women in their songs as "bitches" and "'ho's" - a corruption of "whore".

But the epithet has been embraced by white artists such as the singer-songwriter Meredith Brooks, who proclaimed in a 1997 hit: "I'm a bitch." Black celebrities from the TV talkshow host Oprah Winfrey to hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons have criticised the now-commonplace use of such sexist terms.

Hoist by Their Own Petard

We read:

"Remember a few weeks back when Google blocked Gates of Vienna as a possible "spam blog"? Well, it seems that Google's left hand does not know what its right hand is doing:

Google Mistakes Own Blog for Spam, Deletes it

Readers of Google Inc.'s Custom Search Blog were handed a bit of a surprise Tuesday when the Web site was temporarily removed from the blogosphere and hijacked by someone unaffiliated with the company.

The problem? Google had mistakenly identified its own blog as a spammer's site and handed it over to another person.

What a laugh!

Official Attack on Canadian Blog Ends Inconclusively

Apparently, the complaint that moved the Canadian Feds into action was withdrawn by the complainant, a Ms. Mary Lynn Gentes. Background to the matter is here.

The legislation under which the authorities were working stresses conciliation as a first step so I suspect that the authorities told the complainant that she would probably not win and advised her to withdraw.

So whether you can speak ill of Islam or homosexuals on Canadian blogs remains unresolved. But Canadian bloggers will now no doubt be pretty muzzled against such criticisms.

That's a pity because Canada has a constitutionally entrenched Bill of Rights ("The Charter") under which the anti-free-speech legislation could be challenged -- with a good prospect of success. Rights ennumerated in the Charter include freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, freedom of thought, freedom of belief, freedom of expression, freedom of the press and of other media of communication. And, being constitutional, such rights override laws made by Canadian legislatures. But deep pockets would be needed to mount such a challenge. You would be taking on the whole Canadian government.

Canada lacks free speech not because speech lacks constitutional protection there but because Canadians have such weak egos that they are constantly trying to prove that they are wiser and better than the USA is -- and they are childish enough to think that doing the opposite of what the USA does proves that. It's a "little brother" syndrome. New Zealanders hate Australians for the same reason. Pathetic.

Australia has fewer people than Canada but Australians don't define themselves in relation to the USA the way Canada does. The average Australian has a strong sense of his Australian identity -- powerfully reinforced whenever he travels overseas -- so doesn't need to prove it. Australia's Leftist intellectuals often twist themselves into knots trying to define the Australian identity but the average Australian does not even think about such things -- he just feels it in his bones. And that's why Australia has long been America's best friend (even fighting in Vietnam). We feel free to acknowledge it if we think America has got it right.

Hey! Maybe I've just uttered hate-speech against Canada! That would be fun. Though who'd be bothered to hate Canada?
Gay-bashing is OK if you are a Leftist

That modern-day paragon of Leftism, Daily Kos, has just accused Matt Drudge of being queer. Why? Because Drudge publicized the admitted lawbreaking of Jerome Armstrong, a Kos author. I neither know nor care what Drudge likes to do with his dick (I'd be more interested in what he does with his hat!) but where is that great Leftist "privacy of the bedroom" principle now? If any conservative had said as much, there would be "hate speech" headlines blaring across the country by now.

An excerpt from Kos:

"Matt Drudge is reported to still be cruising Florida gay bars in between sending traffic to his personal friend Breitbart's startup "news wire" in exchange for kickbacks and running goofy pictures of Hillary Clinton..."

Leftists are so full of hate that they just cannot restrain themselves. I gather that Drudge is not an admitted homosexual. Riehl World has a bit of background.

Background to the Pace University Koran Nonsense

We read:

"As you may recall, I twice discussed the questionably anti-Semitic behavior of Pace administrators in mistreating the campus student Jewish organization, while kowtowing to demands of the student Muslim groups.

In the columns, I make it clear that the campus administration took radically different approaches to anti-Semitic behavior and anti-Muslim behavior. When a Menorah was desecrated on campus and a swastika was drawn on a Holocaust memorial event poster, the University's president David A. Caputo labeled the events as "bias incidents." When a paperback Koran was tossed in a toilet - resulting in minimal water damage - Caputo labeled the incident as a "hate crime" that outraged him.

To realize the great lengths to which the University mistreated both these incidents, I highly recommend you read my column from January of this year. The treatment of both incidents gives the following news greater context.

Now, police have discovered who was responsible for the Koran-toilet incident: Stanislav Shmulevich, a Russian Jewish immigrant who was a student at Pace while anti-Semitic vandalism was occurring and going unpunished. He is being charged with felony hate crimes that could land him in jail for up to four years - just for putting a book in a toilet....

Now, back to the paperback Koran and its unfortunate swim in a toilet bowl. Is this really a hate crime? No one was physically hurt. The damage to the Koran was minimal. The Koran in question was a paperback copy - not a priceless religious document. There was no personal target of the demonstration - the target was a paperback book. This was a constitutionally protected act of free speech, regardless of what New York's hate crime bill states, the same way dropping a crucifix in a jar of urine was protected speech.

Read the whole thing.
This Must Be One of the Oddest Racism Accusations Yet

The Jewish and Leftist son of a prominent Marxist theoretician and the grandson of someone who fought in the original Red Army is accused of being an anti-Russian racist?? Western Marxists were always devoted defenders of Russian horrors! Most still are.

"A key adviser to President Vladimir Putin accused [British] Foreign Secretary David Miliband of 'anti-Russian racism' over his handling of the Alexander Litvinenko affair.

It was claimed Mr Miliband let his personal views cloud his judgment in the recent tit-for-tat diplomat expulsion row over the murder of ex-KGB operative Litvinenko.

Last month the Foreign Secretary expelled Russian diplomats from Britain after the Kremlin refused to sanction the extradition of the prime suspect in the murder case.

Brainwashed Students in Los Angeles

A critic of racism gets called a racist:

"In an editorial for a school newspaper, I criticized how the school's four ethnic theme dorms (African-American, American Indian, Asian and Latino) stereotyped minorities by categorizing individuals by race rather than considering broader personal experiences and values. The response: How dare I condemn the established multicultural institutions on campus! Didn't I know that I had no business commenting on the issue since, as one student stated on a campus forum, I was just a "white, libertarian girl from the O.C." Considering how often students refer to their right of free speech when they criticize the school or presidential administration, their reactions to my article were stunning.

I received so many caustic e-mails and messages the weekend after my article was published that my residential adviser actually asked me to inform him if I received any tangible threats. Luckily, these messages were just irrationally irate, not violent. Students accused me of being a racist and an ignoramus because no one they knew had ever objected to the houses....

One boy called me a racist and then told me that he was "greatly offended by the white perspective that [I] hold." Many minorities actually belittled me for suggesting that the school should evaluate them on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. I wonder if I had quoted Martin Luther King's speech verbatim if they still would have accused me of having a racist, "white perspective." "

As I've learned in my humanities classes, the words "black" and "Indian" are taboo in academia. Do these words pose a clear and present danger? Only to the person who utters them. But considering the brouhaha that followed my article, they may well be "fighting words." If you use them around college students, prepare for a fight, or at least a scowl. Though I've heard some African-American students call one another "n*gger," white students still can't use the neutral term "black."

Censorship via British Libel Law

British libel law is very slanted towards the complainer and some oil-rich Muslims have realized that. So if a book is published which is critical of Islam, they sue in British courts. British publishers don't have the money to take them on so the publisher agrees to withdraw and pulp the book. Books that expose some very shady characters in the world of Jihad are thus no longer available. There is a post here that goes into details. As always, the internet is thwarting the censors, however.

Christians Muzzled in Kentucky Schools

We read:

"A future ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit is expected to clarify the extent of free speech available to public students in the Boyd County (Kentucky) School District after students were instructed to withhold Christian viewpoints on homosexuality.

The instruction came in the form of a video that was part of school curriculum designed to teach students about "sexual diversity training." Boyd District's diversity training requirement began as a result of a settlement of a lawsuit filed by a high school Gay-Straight Alliance club against the district and did not include an opt-out provision on moral or religious grounds.

Alliance Defense Fund senior counsel Kevin Theriot says a suit was filed against the district in 2005, but a federal judge rejected both a preliminary injunction, based on religious free speech, and the right to opt out of the sessions, which was why an appeal was filed in 2006.

Australia: Human Rights Law used against Left-loving University

We read:

"Two academics suspended for criticising a PhD film project about the disabled have taken their case to the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission. The commission last week accepted a complaint of discrimination on the basis of political opinion, brought by Dr Gary MacLennan and Dr John Hookham against Queensland University of Technology.

Dr MacLennan and Dr Hookham, who both say they have been suffering from depression and anxiety since their six-month suspension in June by Queensland University of Technology vice-chancellor Peter Coaldrake, said they were ecstatic.

The commission will hold a conciliation hearing between the parties and if the complaint cannot be resolved, the two academics will refer the matter to the Federal Court. If there is a Federal Court hearing, the controversial film would be shown publicly for the first time and if a judge found against QUT, the court could award damages for discrimination.

The academics were originally suspended with no pay after they wrote an article in The Australian newspaper criticising PhD student Michael Noonan's film project, originally titled Laughing at the Disabled (now Laughing with the Disabled). The pair have appealed against the suspension and that case will be heard in the Federal Court in October....

The two academics are angry the QUT misconduct committee that investigated their case did not look at the 41-minute film before their suspension.

Brazil: Homosexuals Try Censorship, Fail, and Get Investigated Themselves

More dim-wittedness from Google:

"A recent attempt by Brazilian homosexuals to silence two weblogs failed when Google, the hosting service, restored them after blocking them for several days. Now the contents of the blogs have drawn the attention of Brazilian prosecutors, who are investigating Luiz Mott, the leader of Brazil's homosexual movement, for pedophilia.

The first blog, by the anonymous author Jael Savelli, was blocked for only a few hours several weeks ago, but the second, authored by Brazilian Christian activist Julio Severo and hosted by Google's "Blogger" service at, was blocked from July 16 to July 19.

The site's contents were removed and replaced with a statement that read: "This blog is being reviewed for possible violations of the Blogger Terms of Service, and can only be opened by the authors." Although Severo states that Google never informed him of its reasons for blocking the site, the removal occurred after a bitter campaign against him by homosexual activists on Google's partner service, The service is widely used by Brazilians to socialize and exchange information, and became an organizing point for opposition to Severo and his site.

Three days after Severo's site was suppressed, the eminent Brazilian philosopher Olavo de Carvalho blasted the campaign against Severo in his regular column for the newspaper Jornal do Brasil....

Carvalho went on to point out that, if anyone had violated the laws, it was the homosexuals attacking Severo based on his religion: "It is they who committed against him the crimes defined in articles 240 and 251 of the Penal Code: publicly defaming and ridiculing a citizen because of his religious belief. They added to this the crime foreseen in article 138: false imputation of a crime."

De Carvalho encouraged protestant church groups to support and defend Severo. "Julio Severo, as a reprisal against his moral crusade, now has his social and professional life totally destroyed. He is the most discriminated against and persecuted of Brazilians. He cannot confront, alone, a gigantic mass movement subsidized by billionaire foundations, that, having made itself out to be a victim persecuted by a solitary and poor adversary, now shows a monstrous, cynical, and perverse dishonesty."

According to Severo, numerous individuals responded by submitting complaints to Google. The day following Carvalho's article, Google restored Severo's website, again without any explanation.

The actions taken against the two blogs, however, drew attention to information contained in one of the blogs against Luiz Mott, the self-described "dean" of the homosexual movement in Brazil. The blog of "Jael Savelli" (the pseudonym of the blog's anonymous author), had published an article entitled "Pedophilia Now!", containing evidence that Luiz Mott is a pedophile.....

In the backlash against Mott's militant homosexual movement, information from Savelli's site has been given to prosecutors in the states of Bahia (where Mott lives) and Juiz de Fora. The Christian Apologetics Study Center (CACP) reports that a prosecutor in the Federal Attorney General's office in the state of Bahia, responded to their complaint with an assurance that he would initiate procedures to begin a criminal investigation and to remove the offending sites from the internet

H/T Against Red
CAIR Under Legal Threat Now

CAIR is a great user of legal intimidation but they may have gone too far in their attempt to shut down the talk by Robert Spencer at YAF. What they said in their threatening letter to YAF was clearly defamatory of Mr Spencer and a conservative group has now threatened to take CAIR to court over that. See here (Or here)
Addle-brained ADL

For an organization that is supposed to be defending Jews, the ADL sounds like it is in the hands of madmen. They are hostile to the only real friends Jews have -- American conservative Christians -- and now they are sucking up to the Muslim Turks by backing the absurd claim that there was no such thing as the Armenian genocide -- in which Muslim Turks killed over a million Christian Armenians nearly 100 years ago. Do they seriously think that their attempt at ingratiating themselves is going to win Jews any friends among Muslims? Details here

Delaware Satirist Expelled for "Degrading Women"

We read:

"A University of Delaware student suspended for operating an allegedly offensive Web site filed suit claiming his First Amendment rights were violated. Maciej Murakowski, 19, in April was asked to leave campus and suspended pending clearance from a "licensed mental health provider."

In the suit filed in U.S. District Court on Monday, Murakowski seeks reinstatement and claims that the site was clearly intended as satire. The sometimes silly, sometimes dark and sexually charged humor may have been in bad taste and immature, according to Finger, but postings were nothing more violent, ugly or threatening than the humor featured in old copies of National Lampoon.

One of the allegedly offensive posts involved a listing of fictitious sexual positions including one that mentions gang rape and another called "The Sociopath," which suggests killing a partner after sex.

In the suit, Finger points out that the university appeared to violate its own policies regarding free speech and treated Murakowski differently than others involved in recent free speech incidents on campus. One involved a graduate student who was affiliated with a white supremacist group and who operated a Web site espousing racial intolerance. In that case, school officials took no action stating that the graduate student, who worked as a teaching assistant, had the right to express himself no matter how ugly the expression....

The ruling cited Murakowski's Web site, describing the content as "degrading, demeaning and violent toward women . even some pieces that may start out wittily or humorously continue to descend into nothing more than a violent end or violent solution," according to court papers.

Intel Falls Foul of the Fault-finders

We read:

"Intel, the computer chip maker, has been forced to apologise for an advertisement which has been widely criticised as racist.

The ad, which was for a new generation of micro-processors, showed six black sprinters crouched in the start position in front a white man wearing a shirt and chinos in an office.

Above the image was a slogan which read: "Multiply computer performance and maximise the power of your employees."

Blogs were quick to spot the connotation of a white master surveying a group of black workers apparently bowed at his feet

We mustn't mention that blacks really are the fastest sprinters, of course.
Leftist sends himself up

In response to my post "More Leftist Hate Speech" on STACLU (also posted here yesterday), a commenter who identified himself only as "CS" (and who also gave a false email address) left the following two comments:

Does anyone actually buy into this wannabe propoganda site? "You see, in fact, the left is a bunch of white hating elitists." Give me a break. What a bunch of poorly thought-out nonsense!

I mean seriously, look at the level of intellect you spark with your commentors- Golden Phoenix-- "Liberals are a bunch of crazy wackos their out of their minds." Are you TRYING to make conservatives look like a bunch of illiterate, dull-witted morons? Take an English class you dolt! And quit listening to this simplistic right-wing garbage. It's rotting your brain quicker than your steady diet of McDonalds and diet soda. No wonder the world is laughing at us.

Sadly, Jay (the owner of the site) seems to have deleted both comments -- presumably on the reasonable ground that they were mere abuse. The comments amused me though. You note that CS criticizes conservative commenter Golden Phoenix for bad spelling. But our Leftist himself is a bad speller. Look at how he spelled "propaganda" and "commenter"!

And in fine Leftist style he misrepresents what I said as "the left is a bunch of white hating elitists". I said no such thing. I said that they hate POOR whites. And, as for being elitists, he could spend many happy hours trawling through the archives of this site.

And of course we have exactly the stereotyping in his comment that I was pointing out -- stereotyping that would be roundly condemnned if a conservative uttered it: Conservatives are people who live on a "steady diet of McDonalds and diet soda".

More Leftist Hate Speech

A Leftist site -- Firedoglake -- describes Republican supporters:

"Imagine a whole two hour debate composed entirely of questions from men lovingly cradling their assault rifles, matronly polyester-swathed frumps of much avoirdupois braying and squawking about abstinence-only education and the danger of Harry Potter in our schools, angry old men taking a break from standing on their porches shouting, "Get the hell out of my yard!" to stare Mike Gravel-like into the camera and demand to know what the candidates plan to do about "th' dayumn Mexicans".

Stereotyping anyone? As Tigerhawk comments:

"Folks at Firedoglake enjoy mocking the middle-American crackers, even if they would never humiliate an African-American, Hispanic, French, or Muslim idiot for fear of social isolation. There are plenty of fools on both the left and right, but it is only safe for the media to make fun of poor white trash.

It also shows how hollow is the Leftist claim to represent "the little guy". Leftists are in fact elitists who hate poor whites.
Attempt to Silence Government Critics in Britain

We read:

"Royal Mail apologised last night for sending a letter warning postmasters that they risked losing thousands of pounds in compensation if they failed to stick to the official line on branch closures.

The letter from Sue Huggins, director of the Network Change Programme, came with questions that customers might ask and directions about how postmasters should respond. It said that undercover staff would be checking that they gave the approved answers. The letter read: "Representatives will visit branches at random to ensure these `key messages' are being delivered . . . Any compensation offered to you shall be subject to you having complied."

The Government plans to close 2,500 out of 14,300 post offices and compensation can be worth 60,000 pounds.

Chicago Professor Punished for Theorizing about Religious Differences

One might have thought that theorizing is an integral part of what Professors do:

"John Marshall Law School professor John Gorby has filed a lawsuit against his employer, saying he was improperly punished for what he believes were innocuous comments to a student after class.

The student, who is Jewish, was doing well in class and Gorby pondered whether his religious training -- which from a young age encouraged critical analysis of written Scripture -- explained why Jews pass the bar at higher rates than African Americans.

Gorby opined that blacks were brought up in religions such as Baptist churches that "emphasize an emotional and spiritual religious experience rather than discussion and debate about the meaning of scriptural language." Gorby is neither Jewish nor African-American....

He thinks the whole episode represents a stifling of the academic freedom that should allow him and other professors to have provocative discussions with students about subjects such as how to boost bar-passage rates that -- according to his lawsuit -- have ranged as low as 12 percent some years for African Americans at John Marshall compared with about 90 percent for Jews.

By blaming the very poor pass rates of blacks on environmental factors he was actually being "liberal". Many people who know about IQ tests and black scores on them would incline to an explanation of black failure in terms of black genetics. They would see the low black pass rates as excellent validation for the IQ tests, in fact.
CAIR Tries to Censor YAF Talk

We read:

"The Council on American-Islamic Relations is demanding that the Young America's Foundation cancel a planned speech Thursday by author Robert Spencer. Mr. Spencer, author of "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam" and founder of Jihad Watch, is scheduled to speak on the topic, "The Truth About CAIR," at 4 p.m. today at YAF's national student conference at George Washington University.

Calling Mr. Spencer "a well-known purveyor of hatred and bigotry against Muslims" with a "history of false and defamatory statements," an attorney for CAIR on Wednesday wrote a letter (click here to see the letter in PDF format) to"demand that YAF cancel the subject session, or else take steps to ensure that false and defamatory statements are not disseminated at that session."

"CAIR has consistently taken a principled position against terrorism and extremism," Joseph E. Sandler, attorney for CAIR, wrote in his letter to YAF. "Our clients have instructed us to pursue every available and appropriate legal steps to ensure that false and defamatory statements are not disseminated" during Mr. Spencer's speech, wrote Mr. Sandler.

"We're not going to be intimidated" by people "who are opposed to free expression," YAF spokesman Jason Mattera told The Washington Times. "Not only are we going to have [Mr. Spencer] speak, but [we] are opening the session up to more interns and we will publicize the event further." More than 400 conservative college students from around the country are attending the weeklong YAF conference..........

YAF have told them to get lost. Needless to say, it is CAIR who are uttering hate speech against Mr Spencer, who is very careful what he says about Muslims on his blog -- sourcing everything from Muslims themselves

Outspoken Florida Mayor Cops Flak

We read:

"Mayor Jim Naugle issued a public apology on the steps of City Hall Tuesday afternoon, but it wasn't the apology the gay community was looking for.

Naugle apologized for underestimating the problem of men having sex with each other in public restrooms, and urged people to call police to complain when they come upon it. He also said Broward County leads the nation in the incidence of new AIDS cases involving men having sex with men, and questioned whether the county tourism office should be welcoming them here.

Gay activists and others have been calling for a public apology form the mayor, and for his resignation, since the South Florida Sun-Sentinel published Naugle's comments earlier this month about gays. In article about a proposed self-cleaning, automatic toilet the city was going to buy for the beach, Naugle said an added benefit would be that it would deter men from using it for "homosexual activity,'' which he said was a problem in public restrooms.

He also said he uses the term "homosexual'' rather than "gay,'' because gays are "unhappy.''

The mayor's comments led to formation of a group called Unite Fort Lauderdale, which is holding a rally tonight at City Hall, where a long list of elected officials and others will be speaking.

Anti-illegal-Immigration Minutemen are "Nazis"

A fevered Washington State "human rights" honcho is out of real arguments so abuse and accusation has to do:

"It is sad to see that the Minutemen and similar groups have succumbed to using hate propaganda to undermine basic tenants of American democracy - opportunity and tolerance....

Unfortunately, it seems like the Minutemen have made progress in some of our communities, including in Everett. The Minutemen rely on the use of hateful speech, the Big Lie, and fear of people who are different to corrupt and coarsen political dialogue, just as their Nazi forebears did.

The so-called Minutemen, like their former fellow traveler Tim McVey, are precursors to domestic terrorism and vigilantism. The federal government is charged with enforcing the immigration laws of the United States. Let the federal government do its job, without "assistance" from gun-toting, self-appointed know-nothings.

It's pretty clear who is uttering the hate speech there. As Larry Simoneaux comments:

"Really? Have the Minutemen offered a "Final Solution" to the problem of illegal immigrants? Is it in any way similar to what SS Lieutenant General Reinhard Heydrich proposed in the Wannsee Protocols?

Have the Minutemen called for the establishment of places like Aushwitz, Bergen-Belsen, Birkenau, Buchenwald, Dachau, Majdanek, Mauthausen, Sobibor, or Treblinka?

Have the Minutemen called for the wholesale death of illegal immigrants? Have they called for the killing of mothers and children, fathers and sons, the sick and the old? Have they experimented with various poisonous gases? Have they suggested that "bath houses" be built in close proximity to ovens?

Does the term "Nazi" also apply to those who say that the influx of illegal aliens needs to be stopped immediately, our borders secured, and a hard look be taken at those who are here to determine what would be best for the nation? Does it apply to those who argue that what our "representatives" in D.C. have allowed to happen is both disgraceful and outrageous?

The name of the "human rights" wacko is Marc Brenman. The surname means "burning man" -- which is amusing given my diagnoss of fever in him.

Using Correct English is Racist??

We read:

"What is a nerd? Mary Bucholtz, a linguist at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has been working on the question for the last 12 years. She has gone to high schools and colleges, mainly in California, and asked students from different crowds to think about the idea of nerdiness and who among their peers should be considered a nerd; students have also "reported" themselves. Nerdiness, she has concluded, is largely a matter of racially tinged behavior. People who are considered nerds tend to act in ways that are, as she puts it, "hyperwhite."

As a linguist, Bucholtz understands nerdiness first and foremost as a way of using language. In a 2001 paper, "The Whiteness of Nerds: Superstandard English and Racial Markedness," and other works, including a book in progress .... the nerds she has interviewed, mostly white kids, punctiliously adhere to Standard English. They often favor Greco-Latinate words over Germanic ones ("it's my observation" instead of "I think"), a preference that lends an air of scientific detachment. They're aware they speak distinctively, and they use language as a badge of membership in their cliques. One nerd girl Bucholtz observed performed a typically nerdy feat when asked to discuss "blood" as a slang term; she replied: "B-L-O-O-D. The word is blood," evoking the format of a spelling bee. She went on, "That's the stuff which is inside of your veins," humorously using a literal definition."

All the Asian nerds around the place will be amazed to hear that they are "hyper-white"!

The nerdy Jerome Schmitt suspects that Ms Bucholtz hasn't actually met many nerds. He says that an ability to handle mathematics is the main characteristic of nerds. My son teaches mathematics at our major university here so I suppose there is no hope for him!

My reference to "correct" English in the heading on this post will be a red rag to Leftists. "There is no such thing as right and wrong", you see. There is, though. See here
