Judge Rules Trump Blocking People On Twitter Violates Free Speech

LOL. This is the laugh of the day:  Liberals WANTING to hear from Mr Trump.  The normal Leftist response to conservative speech is to block their ears!

In an unprecedented move, a federal judge has officially ruled to prevent Trump from blocking users on Twitter.

No, this is not a story from The Onion. This is a real life judge who suddenly thinks its okay to make decisions about who Trump can interact with on social media.

Even though President Trump and family get DEATH THREATS on a daily basis, Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald doesn’t seem to care.

Here’s the report from The Hill:

A federal district court judge on Wednesday ruled that President Trump can’t block people from viewing his Twitter feed over their political views.

Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald, of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, said President Trump’s Twitter account is a public forum and blocking people who reply to his tweets with differing opinions constitutes viewpoint discrimination, which violates the First Amendment.

The court’s ruling is a major win for the Knight Foundation, which brought the lawsuit on behalf of seven people who were blocked from the @realDonaldTrump account because of opinions they expressed in reply tweets.

So my "blocking" people on my home phone violates their 1st Amendment? I think the judge is wrong!

The judge is looking at this as a political office holder who expressly uses Twitter to speak to his CONSTITUENTS. As such, Trump cannot block those with differing views from his official (note, he uses @realdonaldtrump for OFFICIAL communications) twitter account. He tweets specifically to "get around" the mainstream media.

He can still block the abusers, and those who violate twitter's code of conduct, and those who are vulgar, from the feed. He cannot block those who simply express a difference of opinion.

I actually agree with this ruling in the very narrow, limited scope that it affects. When Trump returns to private life, he can go back to blocking whoever he darn well pleases.

Nope. Not unless you are a government official who uses Twitter to communicate policy.

While our host and the linked article distort the issue here, the question that one must ask is whether you believe in an open and transparent government for all people or not?

Can the government shut you out because its actors disagree with you?

If you believe that you have to agree with the government in order to see or hear what is going on, then you hate this decision. If you believe in openness and transparency, then this is a good decision.

I completely disagree. Trump blocking them does not prevent anyone from speaking out against him. It prevents them from using HIS account to do so. Does this mean that every liberal politician will now be prevented from blocking insulting replies on their accounts?
