In Florida, Term ‘Climate Change’ is banned

Department of Environmental Protection officials have been ordered not to use the term “climate change” or “global warming” in any official communications, emails, or reports, according to former DEP employees, consultants, volunteers and records obtained by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting.

The policy goes beyond semantics and has affected reports, educational efforts and public policy in a department that has about 3,200 employees and $1.4 billion budget.

“We were told not to use the terms ‘climate change,’ ‘global warming’ or ‘sustainability,’ ” said Christopher Byrd, an attorney with the DEP’s Office of General Counsel in Tallahassee from 2008 to 2013. “That message was communicated to me and my colleagues by our superiors in the Office of General Counsel.”

Kristina Trotta, another former DEP employee who worked in Miami, said her supervisor told her not to use the terms “climate change” and “global warming” in a 2014 staff meeting.  “We were told that we were not allowed to discuss anything that was not a true fact,” she said.

This matter is from a little while back but I have not mentioned it before so I thought I should say something about it at this juncture -- as Mr Obama has just been in Florida mocking it.

The instruction does appear to come from Governor Scott and he is within his rights in ordering it.  It applies only to language used by government officials speaking on behalf of the government.  As the head of the government, Scott is entitled to specify how his employees must behave while representing the government.

And presenting a shaky theory as fact is certainly well within the ambit of inappropriate behavior.

How employees behave in a private capacity is unrestricted, however.

Climate change is a well established fact. Whether humans had any real effect on the change or can do anything to reduce negative effects of change is not only highly debatable but due to the scale next to impossible. Scientists who claim that humans can do something that will effectively reduce the negative impacts of climate change are talking through their posteriors.

3:29 - of course you agree with the left wing pieces of fecal matter who won't allow any expression 0f opposition to their view point. Perhaps Al Gore will be among those underwater at his Florida sea-side mansion.

Or does he know something we aren't supposed to know?

There is so much more to this than meets the eye. No one has produced any type of documentation collaborating this accusation against Scott.

Furthermore, the FDEP DOES use the term "climate change" when making presentations on the Federal plan of "resilient communities," which is a massive boondoggle.

My city just had a massive meeting on the subject with people from FDEP and the terms were used by presenters, printed on handouts and in Power Point slides. They used the terms "climate change" and "global warming" but no one in the meeting was allowed to contest their presentations or conclusions.

In addition, it should be remembered that Florida is suing the Obama administration over Medicare expansion in the state. The Obama administration has said it will withhold funds for other projects unless Florida expands Medicare which the state cannot afford to do.

The lawsuit is based on Federal law that says the Federal government cannot without funds in other areas if a state does not expand Medicare which is exactly what the Obama administration has said it will do.

This really rings of a case where people are trying to make Florida and its governor look bad without any substantial evidence. If you can make Scott look bad, you don't have to worry about support for the lawsuit as that will crumble.
