Schumer calls for “limits on First Amendment rights” during Senate debate

The top order of business for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) this week is the DISCLOSE Act, a blatant attempt by liberals to circumvent and restrict the First Amendment.

Senate Democrats even staged a “midnight vigil” last night to promote their cause. That’s when the follies starting flying. New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, the No. 3 Democrat, had the biggest whopper of the evening when he called for “limits on First Amendment rights” during his Senate speech.  Here’s the transcript:
I believe there ought to be limits because the First Amendment is not absolute. No amendment is absolute. You can’t scream ‘fire’ falsely in a crowded theater. We have libel laws. We have anti-pornography laws. All of those are limits on the First Amendment. Well, what could be more important than the wellspring of our democracy? And certain limits on First Amendment rights that if left unfettered, destroy the equality — any semblance of equality in our democracy — of course would be allowed by the Constitution. And the new theorists on the Supreme Court who don’t believe that, I am not sure where their motivation comes from, but they are just so wrong. They are just so wrong.

Ultimately, the DISCLOSE Act failed to get the 60 votes necessary Tuesday afternoon. The final vote was 53 to 45. But even though it’s now failed this session and the last one, there are no permanent victories in Washington.

The reason the First Amendment is present is not because the Founding Fathers wanted to protect every day speech, it's there because they wanted to make sure that POLITICAL speech is protected.

As always the Democrats are angling to cut off funding to their political opponents while preserving their own funding.

let us limit congressional powers to their constitutional limits - this will solve a lot of things.

I know it’s hard to hear but hate speech is FREE SPEECH. This is nothing more than a foot in the door so government can restrict our speech in the guise of restricting hate speech. They tried and failed as they tried and failed to get the fairness doctrine passed.

I always thought that the reason that those who want to restrict speech spend so much time shouting at the rain is that they don’t get it. But it’s not that they don’t get it, it’s that they can’t sell it.

Liberals will stop at nothing to suppress speech they don’t like. Conservatives believe the more speech the better.

When libs try to restrict our First amendment rights, I thank god we have the second amendment, congress would be well to understand that.

In 1776 the British implemented restrictions on the colonists right to speech, starting a successful revolution.

Dear congress, that’s called a HINT!

Chuck Schumer, or as we here in NYC call him, "lens-lice", is without a doubt, the biggest liar to ever sit in congress. And, in a place filled with liars and crooks, that's saying a lot.

To those of us who have known him personally, i can assure you that his #1 overwhelming lust is for that big chair in the Oval Office. He actually believes he can be POTUS someday. That would spell the end of America.

Every senator takes this oath of office:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same..."

Any senator that upholds this is clearly in violation and should immediately be removed from office.

Of course, that's just MY vision of a fair world....
