US lawmaker targets Viagra ads
We read:
"Democratic Representative Jim Moran doesn't want to hear about erectile dysfunction -- at least not on television between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm. Moran introduced legislation in late April aimed at banning as "indecent" the radio or television broadcast of advertisements for treatments or medication -- like Viagra or Cialis -- to fight the ailment.
The measure would instruct the US Federal Communications Commission to treat such commercials, which typically feature fully dressed couples nuzzling, as indecent. It would also cover treatments for "male enhancement," according to the text off the bill by Moran, from the state of Virginia.

I wonder what Rep. Moran's problem is? Did he try Viagra and find that it didn't work for him?
Moran is also an antisemite so I suspect that he is a pretty sick puppy. "Displacement" is a well known process in psychology -- whereby one removes ones emotions from their real object and onto some other object. And displacing anger about one's own sexual inadequacies onto "The Jews" has long been proposed by psychologists as one of the causes of antisemitism.

Good point Anon 12:31. In fact, they're now advertising a Viagra-like product for women. But, they are a protected class, so this law won't apply to them.
I think Rep. Moran, being a Demoncrat, and seeing that we now have one-party rule in this country, simply feels he can pass any law that he wants, ala comrade Pelosi.
Moran needs to realize that America is not Disney World. Not everything has to be family-oriented, adults have rights to.

I agree, the world isn't Disney. But I also don't want all the shows to have the token gay couple (besides they usually sterotype them) and a bunch of "mild" curse words.
I've always thought that people who curse a lot just lack the education to choose a more appropriate word. I work in a shop, so I deal with the f word being used as a noun, pronoun, adjective and verb - in addition to all the other words considered "bad." But in my own space, I prefer it a bit more cleaned up.
Your comment simply shows that you are not only intelligent, but that you also have class, two things that are foreign to the majority of our current society.

I don't see what's offensive about VIAGRA commercials, they always show married couples, isn't that family-friendly?

In that commercial women are playing with a chocolate man, two lick his ears, one puts a strawberry on his crotch, one bites his ass.
Yet Moran is outraged by a product that works.
Seriously, Viagra is a wonderful product, it has given so many marriages a new lease on life.
Women don't realize what impotence can do to a man's self-esteem.
Personally, I feel all prescription drug ads should noy be on TV. I can't stand having dinner, watching the news at 6:30 PM, and seeing a commercial about stool softener. This is worse than Viagra, et al.
Moran is a perfect example of the sanctamonious Irish-Catholics.
They are bullies, hypocrites and virulent antisemites. In many cases they make the Islomofascists look like cotton candy.
They believe they must force their values on everyone by censorship and denial.
Basically they are an insecure, immature rabble!

I think the point is how do you explain to your children what erectile disfunction is. "Mommy, what's an erection lasting more than four hours?"
It's kinda like when everyone had to explain to their kids what oral sex was during the Clinton era because it was on the news all the time.
As someone who lives in Northern Virginia, near but not in his district (thank God!), this kind of nuttiness is par for course for Mr. Moran. This guy has been kook for as long as I can remember, but he represents a typical urban to suburban district (just across the Potomac River from DC) that probably would elect Hitler if he ran as a Democrat and used all the DNC talking points in his various speeches.

Rep. Moran is a sophisticated anti-semite, the educated kind, sort of like Henry Ford, Charles Lindberg, Walt Disney, but even less obvious.
