Naughty sexist

Jocular men-talk not OK with a U.S. female audience

"Martin Bashir, famous for nodding sympathetically at both Diana, Princess of Wales and Michael Jackson, has apologised after making a series of sexist remarks to a room full of American journalists.

The British television presenter has been forced into a grovelling apology after joking that he was surrounded by a host of "Asian babes" during an after-dinner speech to the Asian American Journalists Association.

Looking around the room in Chicago during the organisation's annual gala banquet last week, Bashir said: "I'm happy to be in the midst of so many Asian babes. In fact, I'm happy that the podium covers me from the waist down."

Not content with offending the assembled professionals just once, Bashir went on to say that a speech should be "like a dress on a beautiful woman - long enough to cover the important parts and short enough to keep your interest, like my colleague Juju's". The audience began to boo and Juju Chang, who is a fellow television presenter on the ABC channel, retorted: "See what I have to put up with?"

I am inclined to think that the ladies should lighten up

There are classy ways to complement women on their beauty; "A thorn among roses," etc. But this guy's methods completely lacked class, treating the women as mere sex objects.

What a boor!

A very good example of the 1st Amendment in action. He got to say stupid things in front of a bunch of people who then voiced their opinions of what he said. Nobody was hauled off to jail or before a tribunal. Works for me.

sounds like he was drunk!

Not a very bright comment in this PC'ized age. Apparently, this guy thinks we still live in an age where you can actually speak your mind or have a sense of humor. We don't! No, he won't be hauled-off to jail, (i don't think so any way) but you can bet his career will take a hit.

Oh, and ed, "women are sex objects"! Just try telling one she's not. The problem is, they have to be in the mood to hear it, and "they" want to decide who they'll accept it from.

anonymous 4:13,

Some women act like sex objects all the time, but it's not necessary safe for men to respond to that act. For some women, it's pretty much a siren call drawing men to their doom. ("So what if I dress like a slut, you can't treat me like a slut!") In those cases, it's really a power play, not an actual desire.

Some women like harmless flirting. Some don't. The only way to tell the difference is if the woman indicates flirting is okay in some fashion. Otherwise, it's pretty much like trespassing.

If you have a room full of women—especially professional women—the odds are pretty good that a significant number of them don't act like sluts, and don't want or deserve to be thought of as sluts. There is also likely to be quite a few that you don't have a "harmless flirting" relationship with.

In short, this guy went into territory where he was practically guaranteed to be insulting. That tarred him as a classless buffoon instead of a professional. He deserved the reaction he got. He would have gotten it from me too.

BTW... Every woman I know is so much more that just a sex object. IMHO, to reduce a woman to nothing more than bumpy meat is to reduce oneself to nothing more than a walking meatsack, even if the woman is willing.

It was a joke. A JOKE GET IT!!!!!! People need to lighten up BIG TIME. A good come back from Juju would have been, "I don't know why you have to stand behind the podium, no one would be able to see that you are aroused anyway" instead of simpering whiningly, "Now you see what I have to put up with".

If you dress like a slut, then you are a slut! And if "Mr. Right" was looking, you wouldn't mind one bit! A "real" woman doesn't have to do that. If women have the "right" to tease and flirt, then so do men have a right to respond. If women don't like it, then stop asking for it! Oh, and you can also stop lying about it too.
