Stealing lawn signs attacks free speech
By Caroline Burley
MN: Freedom of speech is under attack in Duluth. My Republican lawn signs repeatedly have been attacked this election season. First, the hardware was removed from two of my signs, and they were left lying on my lawn. Then some of my signs became slanted. Finally, on the afternoon of Aug. 28, seven signs were stolen from my yard.
People in Duluth live in fear of saying something that might offend someone. Twice, a pickup has followed me home. Perhaps the driver didn't like the bumper stickers on my vehicle. Intimidation is illegal.
The unions in Duluth dominate School Board and City Council elections, which are supposed to be nonpartisan. Unions should not be allowed to contribute to political campaigns.
Signs are an expensive part of a campaign. Nine signs at $50 each are a theft of $450.
My signs supported people of the highest integrity who have the qualifications for the offices they are seeking. If the candidates the thief supports cannot win fairly, they do not deserve to win.

The author is absolutely correct that Unions should not be allowed to contribute to campaigns but is incomplete in the thought.
The principle that needs to be implemented in law is that if you cannot vote for a candidate in an election then you cannot contribute to them.
That would eliminate all the outside organization monies, not just one type of organization.
Organizations should be allowed to express to their members (but not to the general public) their preferences and argue that their members should provide support but should not be allowed to provide any support directly or indirectly.
Only with laws like those will the ability of organizations to buy candidates and elections be curbed and the power be returned to the voters.
This author needs to be armed. Period. The Left is using violence and the threat of violence too freely. An appropriate defense needs to be immediately at hand.
Anon 3:01 - while your position has some superficial appeal it denies the right of association - another fundamental right.
Citizens should be allowed to form groups - and for those groups to represent the views of their members.
Those groups do not, however, have the right to steal. As someone who has had campaign signs stolen I know how frustrating this is.
Do what one man did he rigged his Trump sign because people were stealing them he had it electrified and when some one came by and tried to make off with the sign they got nasty electric shock and got arrested to
