Ominous prelude to the Colorado shooting
Just yesterday I posted about the strong feelings apparently held about Hollywood's "Batman". People appear to connect with the Batman myth in a strongly emotional way.
It certainly did not hit me at the time but the Batman scenario does of course have TWO major figures, Batman himself and the Joker. And it looks like the Joker was an attractive figure too in our amoral times
There was a hint there of what was to come but nobody foresaw it.
Has the Leftist press started blaming the massacre on conservatives yet? No doubt they will. That is a kneejerk reflex for them despite past failures in that department.
If anyone is to blame aside from the inadequate shooter himself, I think the obvious pick is amoral and Leftist Hollywood.

Yes they did, ABC News claimed the shooter was a TEA Party activist the very next morning. The TEA party guy is in his 50's, the shooter is 24, and their middle names are different. But ABC didn't bother to make sure before they floated that slander.
Shameful media malpractice: ABC’s Brian Ross links Aurora theater shooter to Tea Party
The National Rifle Association tweeted, "Good morning, shooters. Happy Friday! Weekend plans?"
You forgot to include the rest of the story:
NRA tweeter was 'unaware' of Colorado shooting, spokesman says
Too easy in the US for nutters to get guns and ammo of all kinds - even off the internet! The consequences are too obvious!
Is OWS to blame?

The man who would choose security over freedom deserves neither.
Thomas Jefferson
"The Nation that makes a great distinction between its scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools."
- Thucydides
3:39 AM Thomas Jefferson was thinking about defending political freedoms or foreign interference, and not about defending yourself while watching movies in a 21st century theater in America. I think he'd be very shocked what the 2nd Amendment would be used to defend or permit today!
Because pirates, marauders, or hostile Indians didn't have any possibility of kicking their way into your home back then, or raiding into your dance hall? What I think he would be truly horrified at is the willingness of cowards to sacrifice their freedom for the false sense of security that a heavily armed central authority claims to provide. Only willing slaves and fascists advocate gun control.
July 20th is now an NRA holiday!
Well said Anon 4:06. Of course, thick as a brick lefties like Anon 4:28 don't get it and never will.
lLuke,
You actually believe that drivel from the NRA? So sad for you.
Some of you are myopically blind. If you carefully look at the homicide rate in America you'll find the white homicide rate is the same as Europe's, what brings up and over doubles the homicide rate is the inclusion of black people, the dept of justice stats show they are responsible for over half the homicides yet only have 12-13 pct of the population. Our homicide rate would instantly half without the black numbers.
Yet Hollywood makes billions of dollars every year peddling and glorying violence.
foreign press are already rushing to show how the whole thing was caused by the "idiotic" US system where people can legally buy and own weapons.
the Europeans can kiss our asses, they caused ww1 and ww2 with millions upon millions of casualties. Until the United States does something that ignorant shut the F up, we haven't come close to those numbers EVER.
Anon 7:29,
1) Without the context of the theater shooting, that was a perfectly innocent tweet. Shooting is a sport and there are events and activities all the time. Promoting and encouraging such activities is part of the NRA's purpose.
2) Humans cannot know everything, and what can be known usually isn't known immediately. (For example, I didn't know about the shooting until after 11:30 or so my time.) As a result, everyone makes innocent remarks that intersect badly with something they didn't know.
3) The NRA is a savvy lobbying organization. They wouldn't be hated so much by your ilk if they weren't. Such a tweet would be total amateur hour (as in 3rd grade level) by anyone who knew about the shooting. It would be so callous that I wouldn't even expect Mr. Gaffetastic (Joe Biden) to knowingly say something in such poor taste.
Result: While is possible that the person who wrote the tweet knew about the shooting, given the above, it's unreasonable to think they did know about the shooting at the time.
4:04 PM - Your knowledge of world history is very superficial. The US was not totally divorced from affairs in Europe, and the cause of WWII had a lot to do with the Great Depression caused by US capitalism, that undermined the German economy that led to the rise of Nazism. So it could just as easily be said that the US caused WWII AND even Nazism!
4.04 pm, but the US had a good attempt at mass-murder with two atomic bombs on Japan and numerous nasty chemical bombs on Vietnam, just to mention only two countries - oh and the terrible fire-storm bombings of civilians in Hamburg and Dresden, as well as indisciminate area bombing of other German cities.
3:07,
The Treaty Of Versailles was the primary cause of Germany's economic problems prior to WWII and is thought to have been the primary cause of WWII. This is the general consensus of historians. That treaty was very unfair to the Germans, and most of the demands that made it unfair came from the French, who suffered horribly in that war.
What was the Treaty of Versailles?
Treaty of Versailles
Furthermore, prior to WWII, the United States was quite isolationist. We were generally adamant about staying out of Europe's conflicts. It was only the attack on Pearl Harbor and Hitler's subsequent declaration of war on the United States that dragged us into the war.
I suggest you be more careful about your accusations of "superficial knowledge".
re: 3:15,
Just as historically "accurate" as the previous assertions. For example, consider the details of dropping the atomic bombs:
Jon Stewart, War Criminals & The True Story of the Atomic Bombs
3:15 get a clue, the numbers aren't even close. Read history, America didn't even want in the war(s). Now shut up.
Anon 3:15 - We didn't START those wars and we didn't kill anywhere near as many civilians as the socialists and fascists did. You whine just because you don't like the fact that we finished those wars.
4:33 says "shut up" on a site about "free speech".
4:27 ought to be able to distiguish between political involvement and business involvement (re US involvement in Europe). Even the Bush family were in trouble for business support of Hitler's Germany.
Sure the Versailles Treaty (mentioned by Luke) was perhaps the primary problem for Germany, but when its loans from the US were undermined by the US market crash of 1929 led straight on to the economic crash of Germany and the consequent rise of Nazism. I guess 4:27 should be less critical about who has superficial knowledge of US/Europe relations.
I see now it was Luke's post in both cases.
Wrong. Look again.
I meant "Luke" and "4:27" as being the same.
