Must not suggest that homosexuality is unhealthy

One of Britain’s most senior Roman Catholics has sparked fury by suggesting an MP and former minister died because he was gay.

The new Archbishop of Glasgow, Philip Tartaglia, said society had kept ‘very quiet’ about the death of Labour MP and former Scotland Office minister David Cairns.  Mr Cairns, a former Catholic priest himself, died in May last year at the age of 44 from acute pancreatitis.  But Bishop Tartaglia questioned why his body ‘just shut down’.

At a conference on religious freedom held at Oxford University, he said: ‘If what I have heard is true about the relationship between the physical and mental health of gay men, then society is being very quiet about it.

‘Recently in Scotland, there was a gay Catholic MP who died at the age of 44 or so, and nobody said anything, and why his body just shut down at that age.

‘Obviously he could have had a disease that would have killed anybody.

‘But you seem to hear so many stories about this kind of thing, but society won’t address it.’ A source close to David Cameron said the Prime Minister believed the Archbishop’s remarks were ‘totally unacceptable’.

Mr Cairns’s partner of 15 years, Dermot Kehoe, accused him of delivering a ‘hate speech’, and said the comments had added to his grief.

Mr Kehoe said the bishop’s ‘ignorance and prejudice should not go unchallenged’. He wrote on Twitter: ‘Tartaglia’s comments are hate speech. He has position of moral leadership and should not speak from ignorance of the facts... Distressing and painful.’

Homosexuality may not be unhealthy, but anal sex is, whether it is between gay men, lesbians with strapons, or kinky heterosexuals.

The way to combat such "hate speech" and "ignorance" is with scientific study of the issue and data. You know, something along the lines of whether gay men actually do die younger, of certain illnesses associated with their lifestyle? Are they more susceptible to disease?

But we aren't allowed to ask such questions, and God protect the first scientist who produces a report that runs contrary to the PC brigade!

Truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth.

Direct from the CDC:

CDC Analysis Provides New Look at Disproportionate Impact of HIV and Syphilis Among U.S. Gay and Bisexual Men

The data, presented at CDC's 2010 National STD Prevention Conference, finds that the rate of new HIV diagnoses among men who have sex with men (MSM) is more than 44 times that of other men and more than 40 times that of women.

The rate of primary and secondary syphilis among MSM is more than 46 times that of other men and more than 71 times that of women, the analysis says.

"While the heavy toll of HIV and syphilis among gay and bisexual men has been long recognized, this analysis shows just how stark the health disparities are between this and other populations," said Kevin Fenton, M.D., director of CDC's National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention.

The effect of these disease rates is clear:

Yet Another Study Confirms Gay Life Expectancy 20 Years Shorter

A new study which analyzed tens of thousands of gay obituaries and compared them with AIDS deaths data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), has shown that the life expectancy for homosexuals is about twenty years shorter than that of the general public.

One such study was conducted in Vancouver British Columbia and published in 1997 in the International Journal of Epidemiology (Vol. 26, 657-61: http://ije.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/26/3/657). It almost exactly mirrors the findings of Cameron’s research.

The Vancouver study was conducted by a team of pro-gay researchers,…

Now you can see why terms like "hate crime" and "hate speech" were created by the left. It was simply to protect gays, and other highly-protected left-wing groups, from having to face FACTS.

Many years ago, when the very first case of AIDS was made public, (brought into America by a gay airline employee) a member of congress, (and forgive me for not remembering his name) stood up in the House and said that person should be quarantined until we find out just what we're dealing with. He was "immediately" attacked and demonized by gays and leftist Democrats.

Just think of all the suffering and death that could have been avoided had they simply listened.

It's getting worse, now the Mayor of Chicago wan'ts to support banning Chick Fil A due to someone's free speech rights.

"Gays" in the above references apply to a subset of homosexuals which are either identified or self-identified as homosexuals. There are many more "gays" who live quiet or monogamous lives but obviously can never give ammo to the "anti-gay statistics" any more than some other demographic about say 20 year-old heteros and their drug-taking or STD statistics vis à vis all persons in that huge age-group.
However the RC Church has a cheek - talk about "glass houses" and "throwing stones"!

"It's unhealthy lifestyle that does it."

Another unhealthy lifestyle can be seen with this guy

Yep it's an unhealthy lifestyle being an American with so many guns going off randomly.

4:34, what a stupid statement. How does our national life expectancy keep going up? I guess guns aren't the issue. try using your brain instead of parroting some moronic liberal.

This kind of attempted discouragement of discussion does not protect gays; quite the opposite, and obviously so. Rather, its real purpose is to protect the image of those who espouse in favor of gays, even if gays themselves must die more often as a result.

So many levels to the hypocrisy, sigh.

These statistics only apply if "gays" refer to identified homosexuals. Huge numbers exist more or less anonymously, so that would skew such statistics.
Also 5:18 AM seems to suggest that black Americans are not part of America and only "white" statistics should be considered. It rather reminds me of what someone said during WWII rationing of cigarettes in the UK, saying if women didn't smoke there would be enough cigarettes.

3:26, facts is facts.

It IS unhealthy and we all know it.

facts is facts

Unless you're a leftist. Then they're just so darned inconvenient!

So 9:05, you think it's unhealthy to be a gay even if he/she is monogamous or even celibate?
Only promiscuous "gays" - just like promiscuous heteros - will get STDs, though they can be treated, even HIV infection responds well to modern treatment. Well, maybe 9:05 thinks all "gays" are the flamboyant and obvious kind that comes to the attention of the media and bigots like 9:05!.

2:40 deal with it. It's a fact.

even if he/she is monogamous or even celibate

Celibate is fine. That's exercising self control. That's all anyone can ask of anyone else; including hetero's. (Yes, a lack of celibacy amongst hetero's is also a problem.)

But study after study have shown that there is no such thing as "monogamy" among homosexuals.

Comparing The Lifestyles Of Homosexual Couples To Married Couples

In The Male Couple, authors David P. McWhirter and Andrew M. Mattison reported that, in a study of 156 males in homosexual relationships lasting from one to thirty-seven years:

Only seven couples have a totally exclusive sexual relationship, and these men all have been together for less than five years. Stated another way, all couples with a relationship lasting more than five years have incorporated some provision for outside sexual activity in their relationships.

The Dutch study of partnered homosexuals, which was published in the journal AIDS, found that men with a steady partner had an average of eight sexual partners per year.

Good news! Progress with the fight against HIV. See Fox News article here.

Luke - as usual your source is an obviously biased anti-gay one. If there is anything at all valid in the findings and the statistics, it's probably more that men in general are more promiscuous rather than just male homosexuals. The women that hetero men are partnered with will constrain and inhibit any "unfaithful" behavior. Lesbian couples are notoriously jealous of each other, but male couples may be more tolerant of some partner swapping, but not always of course.
