Rep. Todd Akin Refuses to Apologize for Saying: ‘At the Heart of Liberalism…Is a Hatred For God’‏

Given the abuse and obstruction Christians get from Leftists, this is a pretty reasonable conclusion:
Earlier this month, in a radio interview, Missouri congressman and GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin said the following: "Well, I think NBC has a long record of being very liberal and at the heart of liberalism really is a hatred for God and a belief that government should replace God. And so they’ve had a long history of not being at all favorable toward many of things that have been such a blessing to our country.

Liberals have since demanded an apology, with ThinkProgress (TP) publishing its own rebuttal to the politician’s statements. According to TP, Akin does not plan on backtracking on his statements:

Akin’s communications director, Steve Taylor, told the [St. Louis Post-Dispatch] that Akin was commenting on a difference between the two ideas: while conservatives believe rights come from God, liberals think they come from the government. Taylor said Akin was not referring to any individual’s beliefs, only the “defining principles of two political ideologies.”

And it is decayed "mainstream" churches (such as the Episcopalians) who have lost the faith (as set out in the Bible) who favor Democrat policies. Such churches are just social clubs masquerading as Christians. Ask Episcopalian clergy such as Bishop Spong the simple question: "Do you believe in God?" and you will rarely get a straight answer. You will hear that God is "the ground of our being" or some other such mumbo jumbo.

On the 9/14/2001 shortly after 9/11, I watched a live TV broadcast of Congress singing along to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" at Washington National Cathedral. It was an amazing bi-partisan event sung with great passion--that is until they got to about verse 3 of 6 where most of the Liberals decided they'd had enough singing about God. Most stopped singing and many even left. No, it wasn't exclusively Democrats that did this, but they were absolutely in the majority.

The Left is philosophically motivated to support only that which helps their agenda. If it means temporarily embracing an acceptance of "God" in order to look good, they will certainly do so.

Well the implication is that government should be replaced by God and that would mean a theocracy, which is against the US Constitution.

um, singing about God is not quite the same as establishing a theocracy. Liberals have this notion that hearing someone else's speech about their religion choice (see First Amendment) is somehow against the Constitution.

From Newsweek
"A Gallup poll released last week indicated that 18 percent of Republicans would not vote for a Mormon. If either Romney or Huntsman wins the nomination, the GOP candidate will face even more opposition, with 19 percent of independents and 27 percent of Democrats opposed to voting for a Mormon."
So, who are the bigots really?

The idea of unalienable rights as set forth in the Declaration of Independence originates in the belief in God. Without God the rights are not "unalienable" because if they are given by men or governments, they can be just as easily taken away. The freedom of speech is one of the rights we hold most dear because without it no other rights would exist. If you believe your right to free speech comes from a government, and no government is eternal, your rights are not permanent and subject to change.

I thought it referred to the "Creator" and not "God". "Creator" is diplomatically vague, since everything was created in some way or other.

And why the Hebrew's tribal war-god, Yahweh, that Saul of Tarsus transformed into the Christian God???

Our rights do not come from the government! The first words of the Constitution of the USA state "We the People...", not "The Government..." The People grant power to the government, not the other way around.

He is telling the truth, why apologize or take it back.

So what is the ultimate authority - "God", "Government" or the "People" ??
