AZ: Charge dropped for man who gave trooper the finger

We read:
"A harassment charge has been dropped in the case of a 35-year-old Colorado man who faced prosecution for displaying his middle finger to a Colorado State Patrol trooper. The State Patrol said in a statement late Friday that it asked that the case be dropped.

The American Civil Liberties Union had argued that while the gesture may be have been rude, it amounted to protected free speech."

Harassment? What this trooper was doing was trying to enforce the "laws" of political correctness. Most people haven't noticed, but many of the country's police agencies are filled with young officers who have been educated (see:indoctrinated) via the rules of PC. Nothing that has ever taken place in this country has eroded our freedoms and liberties more than PC has.

As a police officer for nearly 25 years, I've had my share of obscene gestures and name calling. I just smile and go about my business. Why give them the power to upset me. A few years ago I was driving my patrol car near a high school. A large group of teens walked by and one said "I smell bacon!". I pulled next to the group and with a smile replied "Yeah, that wasn't really funny the first thousand times I heard it", causing all of his friends to break out in laughter. He had his chance to show off for his friends, I didn't demean or insult some one who may overall be a fine young man, and we both went on our way.

Quite often the most powerful thing to do is smile and move along. It leaves the other person hanging and looking foolish.
