Marine Told She Can’t Wear Uniform to Her High School Graduation‏

We read:
"Lindsay Starr graduated early, joined the Marines, headed off to spend three months at boot camp and now all she’s asking for is a chance to wear her Marine dress blues to her high school graduation ceremony. Her high school’s answer? Absolutely not.

North Allegheny High School, located in Wexford, Pennsylvania, has a strict graduation policy under which all students must wear school colors and a cap and gown if they plan to walk across the stage to claim their diplomas. Despite efforts to change officials’ minds, Starr has been told that there is absolutely no chance the district will budge.

In response to the controversy, the school issued a statement that said, “We just don’t do it. The required dress is cap and gown"

The school should feel honored to have a marine among their graduands. They are falling back on the rule book just to hide their bigotry. The Left-dominated educational system has an oft-demonstrated hatred of the military. Witness the many attempts to keep the ROTC out of colleges.

I don't know how to feel about this. I'm sure some students would be jealous and think "well, if she doesn't have to wear a black gown, how come I have to wear a black gown." If I was in her place, I wouldn't even bother attending my high school graduation. What for? Anyone can graduate high school but it takes real strength to complete boot camp.

It's no secret that leftist-controlled academia is rabidly anti-military, as they are anti-anything American. But, she did know the school's dress policy going in. On the other hand, as an active member of the USMC, can she attend out of uniform?

Wear the cap and gown on stage get your diploma and rip the gown off with your uniform under it

What did she wear at the Parris Island graduation? No options there. Quit with the showboating and wear the gown.

Either stick with the cap/gown or do not attend. Otherwise next year kids will demand to wear whatever they want to the ceremony. I'm with the school on this one. Wear your dress blues under the gown and after the stage ceremony, take off the gown.

Why do conservatives hate education so much?

...when she was a minor and had no choice in the matter, cuz that's when she would have started at her local school.

She is still a minor. She's 17.

If a Marine can't understand the rules...

It amazes me how many people on here want to back the school, cap and gown is traditional, but seriously, you do not always need to go with tradition, especially when this girl is going to put her life on the line to fight for freedom and protect Americans, going after her like that is a slap in the face to this young lady.

The marines have rules. The school has rules. A good marine follows the rules.

islam has rules, does a Marine have to follow islamic rules? after all we have a stealh muslim as president.

I believe she could've made a stronger statement by NOT attending, even though she had earned the right to be there.

This is what "our" public education system has become. The system that WE pay for. And, it's because WE allowed it! The shame is not only on the EduNazi's who run this school. The true shame is on the American people.

Why?

If the school allowed her to wear a uniform, then other students would want to wear something else. I bet a McDonald's uniform would look really spiffy at a graduation, right? Or how about a Jiffy Lube uniform?

The problem is that once the school allows one uniform, they have to allow them all otherwise they are censoring based on content. They aren't allowed to do that.

The "all cap and gown" policy is legal and appropriate.

If the school made this policy just to keep her from wearing the uniform or has regularly given exemptions from the policy for other groups then it should also give her an exemption. If the policy has long been there and exemptions have not been granted before then this young lady is not only making a problem where there is none but she is also dishonoring the uniform she wants to wear.

From what little I see in the story I think she's making trouble and should be discharged from the Marines, she will be trouble for them too.
