Canadian speech police in big retreat

"Take this cup from me", they are saying:
"The Canadian Human Rights Commission says it still has a role to play in fighting hatred on the Internet, but wants Parliament to curb its powers. It says it should no longer be able to levy fines of up to $10,000 against hatemongers and wants lawmakers to provide a clear, legal definition of what constitutes prohibited hatred.

In a special report to Parliament, the commission also wants legal changes that would allow it to award costs in cases where accusers abuse the process and to quickly dismiss complaints that don't meet the definition of hate.

But the commission insists that the Internet remains a potentially dangerous realm where hatred can spread insidiously. The tribunal says it has to stick around to help rein in such hatred and help strike a balance between free expression and the right of people to live free from discrimination.

Good to hear them saying much of what their critics have been saying

"The right of people to live free from discrimination"

Only leftists would envision such lofty, unrealistic goals. Different forms of discrimination, and yes, hate, are simply factors of human nature. We all discriminate against someone or something at times. And hate is just a human emotion, like love. Will those on the left be able to eliminate their hatred of, or discrimination against, conservatives? Of course not, nor would they want to.

Perhaps leftists are suggesting that we be genetically altered to fit their vision of a liberal Utopia? It wouldn't surprise me.

Hate and Hatred are NORMAL human behavioural traits, just like love.

When are the Liberal idiots going to realise you cannot legislate human emotions away?

By the way, the favourite tactic of the Liberals is Bullying, so I guess that legitimises threatening people for expressing their likes and dislikes.
