Boss claims to have fired worker for calling transgender colleague ‘it’

A US man has revealed why he decided to fire an employee over the use of a single “disrespectful” word, which insulted a fellow colleague.

The boss, from Tallahassee in Florida, claimed one of his workers had referred to a transgender colleague as “it” — despite being warned against it.

The worker allegedly also underwent sensitivity training where it was explained why “misgendering” someone — or referring to them by the incorrect pronoun — was so insulting.

However, the man persisted — until his boss stepped in.

The man’s account is now private, and it is not known what industry the alleged incident occurred within, although the tweets have attracted an outpouring of support.

"It" seems like a good choice.
Why should those with twisted minds be accommodated ?

"It" should never be an acceptable form of reference. Regardless of whether we agree with the person's lifestyle/life choice or not, everyone deserves to be treated with Human Decency. In addition, as this was in the workplace, one should act in a professional manner to co-workers. Having persisted in the negative behavior despite warnings, this person brought it upon himself.

Nothing in the source article indicated that the transgender woman had made any unreasonable demands or requirements. This appears to be a simple case of ignorance/intolerance on the part of one employee. If you disrespect your colleague, be prepared for the consequences.

Your sexual preferences should be left at home and not inflicted on others. A homosexual man trying to be attractive to straight men by appearing to be a woman is a sexual preference. If a man dressed as a woman looked convincing then there would be no confusion or misgendering. There is a fair chance that the reference to “it” would be more about ignorance of the pronoun being preferred this day or confusion as to what the correct pronoun would be. Tolerance of mental illness in the workplace should be encouraged but it can be very wearing over a long period .
