Texas High School Student Told Rosary Is 'Gang Symbol':
"A Texas teen claims she is forbidden from wearing a rosary around her neck in school because the Catholic prayer beads are a gang symbol. Tabitha Ruiz was stopped by security guards at Seagoville High School in Dallas last week and told to take off the silver and ruby beaded rosary, a gift from her mother. On Monday, the same thing happened when she again came to the school wearing the beads. "I went to school, walked through the metal detectors and they told me to take it off," the teen said. "I asked them why and they said because it's gang-related."
Ruiz and her mother, Taire Ferguson, said they had no idea that rosary beads were a gang symbol. Police, however, are well aware. "Lately they've been seen wearing religious jewelry such as the rosary worn by gang members, so it is a factor," Sr. Cpl Kevin Janse of the Dallas Police Department told the FOX affiliate.

So what if it is a gang symbol? It is also a respected religious symbol. A clearcut breach of the 1st Amendment to ban them. It's not even illegal for gang members to wear gang symbols.
It's going to be fun if gang members start wearing Muslim crescents, skullcaps or other Muslim garb, though. Shall we bet that Muslims won't be stripped of their Muslim garb because of that?

Personally I believe the Church is partly to blame for this. The Church as not been vocal enough to denounce people who do not live a Christian life but wear religious symbols and jewelry. If you believe what the Rosary stands for, then you would not lead a life contrary to that belief!
A few years ago a court here in the Netherlands decided that Sikhs are allowed to wear their ceremonial daggers (which are far from ceremonial in their sharpness and effectiveness as weapons) despite them being banned under our weapons control laws.
As religious symbols they (so the court decided) were not weapons.
If someone who's not a Sikh were to be seen with one he'd however be arrested and receive at the very least a serious fine and a criminal record...
Seems the US is getting to be even more extreme, following the UK's example where now government workers are required to observe the Ramadan lest some Muslim be offended by his coworkers eating.
When I see children wearing a rosary, I remind them that a rosary is not an article of clothing or jewelry. It is an instrument to aid in prayer.
In California too that is the rule, that Children can carry a Kirpan, as long as certain restriction are there. The Kirpan shall be dull, sewed onto the case, and worn under the outer layer of clothes.
And to be truthful, I have no problems with the kids carrying them. Since long ago, I used to carry a pocket knife to school and there never was a case of kids getting into a knife fight then!

I've no problem with kids carrying pocket knifes. What I have a problem with is one group being allowed to carry 10" daggers because they're "religious symbols" when everyone else can't carry a pocket knife without risking arrest for carrying a "dangerous weapon" (as is now the case here, police can give themselves special permission to lock down areas of their choice and arrest anyone carrying anything that might potentially be used as a weapon).
This is a pet pev of mine. In CA we saw the same thing. Folks using the Rosary and our Lady of Guadalupa as a sign of "Brown Pride". Were as a Catholic thay belong to all of us. I used to tell the young men who had shirts of Our Lady...."that lady ..she's not Mexacan...She's Jewish."

Um, they have it backwards. It's the gang members who are wearing rosaries that were typically worn by Catholics, not the other way around.
It's nothing more than another example of a minority group (in this case, gangs) co-opting a symbol long-held as religious.
Kinda reminds me of the whole "gay rainbow" thing. You know, where f*gs turned a beautiful Biblical symbol of God's promise into in identifier of d*ck smoking sin.
Symbols will have to be copywrited or patented by first-users. Even the swastika existed long before the german nazi party made it notorious and is now unusable by anyone else (except nazi sympathizers).

This sort of thing will continue, and in fact, go even further because generally speaking, the people are weak-minded and stupid. People have surrendered their right/ability to think for themselves, and instead, have adopted political correctness. Weak people deserve no better.
Why do they have to have stupid dress codes made by a bunch of ignorant liberal know nothings i mean i read of a case where a school boy was ordered to ether turn his NRA T-shirt inside out or go home and change his clothes when he refused they expelled him but his parents sued the school in court and the judge ruled the schools dress code as UNCONSTITUTIONAL nOW THEY SHOULD MAKE THAT LIBERAL IDIOT PRICIPAL WEAR A PINK TUTU TO SCHOOL TO HIMILIATE THE LIBERAL DOOFUS
