City Councilman Defends Naming His Dog ‘Muhammad'

We read:
"A city councilman in San Juan Capistrano, California, has come under fire by Muslims and local council members alike for naming his dog Muhammad and later announcing it during a city council meeting. Councilman Derek Reeve is not backing down, however, stating on Tuesday that the decision to name his dog Muhammad was not meant to be offensive but was rather abut his family exercising their freedom of speech.

According to the local SJC Patch, Reeve’s dog-naming came on the heels of the councilman explaining to his children that in some parts of the Islamic world, they could be sentenced to death for using the Muslim prophet Muhammad’s name in a fashion deemed inappropriate.

On Friday, the Los Angeles chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) asked Reeve to apologize for his remarks, stating he showed “disrespect toward Islam’s revered prophet Muhammad by making [the] derisive public comment.”

As a result, Reeve, during his subsequent explanation, referred to CAIR as a “terrorist organization” and was reportedly upset over the organization’s reprimand.

But CAIR and Kramer weren’t the only ones to voice disapproval. Citing a Muslim in the audience who was offended by Reeve’s comment, Mayor Sam Allevato weighed in, stating ”You have to be really careful about what you say.” He added that “these types of comments are not acceptable” and could lead to a hostile work environment for City Hall employees.

He will probably have to go into hiding because of the threats to him and his family. Free speech is dead when it comes to Islam.

It's no surprise seeing the mayor of this Mexifornia city, (is he here legally?) telling an elected official that the First Amendment doesn't apply to him. It also sends a message to our muslim enemies around the world that America has become the weakest nation on earth. I wonder if the mayor also condemns the violent gangs of illegals that populate and control his state.

We've gone from a nation of laws and free people, to a nation of sheep.

The real story here is that some people are beginning to point out that the Emperor has no clothes, and the p.c. crowd knows where that leads.

It is admittedly offensive. But it is unquestionably his right to be offensive, an inconvenient little fact many liberals and fellow travelers have forgotten in their rush to embrace the concepts of political correctness, backed by punishments for "hate speeck". Stick by your guns, Councilman (and if you don't have a gun, it would probably be advisable to get one).
Everyone who thinks an official would receive equal censure for a cat named Jesus or parrot named Jahweh, raise your hand.

What the mayor is saying is city employees might be in danger of Muslim violence. We don't want to make them mad! Where else will the "hostility" come from?

Or it could be that Muslim workers may take it to court or to mediation actually citing a hostile work environment. This could result in suing for damages (a win for the Muslims) and it could result in policy or legislative changes further restricting freedoms of speech (another win for the Muslims.)

I definitely understand your point, but don't forget that Muslims are very patient, methodical, and persistent. Sure, a violent response would be easy, but if they can undermine our corporate and legal systems from within, they would have a much greater long-term effect.

It is indeed an insult to name your dog Muhammed. It's an insult to the dog to compare it with a pedophile mass murderer!
