Why is it "racist" to depict a black man in bed with a white woman?
As I noted on 18th., an Australian TV commercial aroused the ire of some black American basketballers who are at present playing for Australian teams. They said that the ad was racist. I noted at the time that I could not follow their objections and an Australian columnist has just commented that the racists are the ones who are objecting to the ad.:
"The ‘offending’ moment of the commercial sees Sydney Kings import, Taj McCullough, falling onto a bed between a white couple after tossing a ball. That’s it. Though several African American basketball players have reacted strongly to the commercial, nobody has yet made clear exactly how this image is racist or offensive.
I can only imagine the offended to be those who are outraged at the notion of black people being in bed with whites - those who remain hostile opponents of what was, in a less enlightened time, referred to as miscegenation. One could strongly argue that, should the commercial be pulled, it will be a blow struck in the name of racial segregation"

I think he has a point. But he seems to think that all Americans share the absurd sensitivity of the black players, which is certainly not so. But given the way the American Left constantly shriek about such matters, one can understand where he got that impression.

What is offensive is not that a black man jumps in bed with a white woman, but that a man jumps in bed, separates what is either a husband and wife, or a consenting couple, and then cuddles the woman who happily accepts. This isn't racism, but sexual greed.
Another angle is that a prominent sports player, regardless of race, can have what he wants at the expense of others.
This goes way, WAY beyond racism.

Excellent point sig, one that i'm sure is missed by most who see this story. Also, i'd be willing to bet that far less blacks would be offended if the scene contained two White women in that bed.
These day's the black basketball players don't have to be offended since their are so many on the left queuing up to be offended on their behalf like the author of subject article. What a load of tripe. Run out of Aboriginal ambulance chasing did we?
It must be so soul stirring to create a fuss when there was none on behalf of people who you don't know, who don't want to know you and generally couldn't give a rat's what you think.
Being a socialst has it's own rewards. Like pissing off most people for the sake of it.
The left as well as "anti-racism" and "black interest" groups have been clamoring for segregation from the moment it was outlawed.
Of course they usually couch it in other words like "affirmative action" (special privileges for blacks, which set them apart as an advantaged class who don't have to prove themselves the way whites do), buit segregation it is.
I think this was "blown" all out of proportion by the media.
After all,
The whole thing is just a matter of "inches"!

'The whole thing is just a matter of "inches"!'
Do I detect a stereotype bing hinted at here?
Anon 4:55,... you hit the bullseye! 1000% correct! Well said.
Anyone who lives in the real world knows that generally speaking, blacks only want to be with their own kind. This of course, is perfectly acceptable to their bleeding-heart enablers on the Left. If you're White and want the same exact thing, you're a racist. Playing the so-called "race card" has become a multi-Billion dollar industry, and not one dime ever goes to a White! (except for liberal White lawyers)
