Australian TV ad featuring American black seen as "racist"

Apparently there are quite a few American blacks in Australia who have been imported to play in Australian basketball teams
"A controversial television commercial portraying a Sydney Kings basketball player hopping into bed with a married couple has been branded as racist and in appalling taste.

The offensive ad has outraged African American legends of the game and thrown the National Basketball League into turmoil on the eve of its first game.

In the closing scenes of the new ad, which sees a ball thrown around a suburban house, Kings import Taj McCullough is seen jumping into bed between the couple before nuzzling the woman beside him.

For some, it immediately evoked memories of former Sydney Kings player Bryant Matthews, who was jailed for rape when he was found in similar circumstances as an unwanted third person in bed with a couple in Sydney in 2006.

NBL legend Darryl McDonald said: "It puts black Americans in a bad light. That commercial has nothing to do with basketball. Nobody else would present their sport this way. It's supposed to be in fun but not everyone will think the same way."

There is no doubt that black American males are very promiscuous sexually so therefore you are not allowed even to hint at that being so. Understand? Not sure I do.

Regarding racism, you need to ask yourself, why is it considered racist? Does it portray the truth? If so, then is it really racist to portray the truth? Bad taste? maybe? But racist?

And just what is he supposed to be called now, an "African American Australian"? This is getting REALLY tedious.

"Beware of those who cry racism, for they are the true racists"

The same ad could have been made with local white sports stars and still have the same effect. It would still be appalling in taste.

If the aim of the ad was 'brining NBL into your bedroom' meaning that couples watch basketball in bed before sleeping then it fell flat on its face.

If the aim of the ad was to entice women to watch NBL because of the African American players in order to inspire sexual fantasy then the ad should be condemned as racial stereotype abuse by the advertisers. The players who let themselves become embroiled in these are idiots chasing the almighty dollar.

You said, '
There is no doubt that black American males are very promiscuous sexually..' and that comment in itself is racist. That's equivalent to saying 'white Australian males are very promiscuous sexually.' Both statements have equal amounts of truth. Almost any statement that implies 'all' of any group do ANY thing is by its very nature false.
