Incorrect sound: Air New Zealand sorry over 'whoop whoop'



We read:
"Air New Zealand has been criticised for its use of the words "whoop whoop" in its new advertising campaign.

The advertisement promotes discounted airfares with the words “let’s party” and “whoop whoop”.

Jayne Holtham’s father Bryan died 31 years ago when an Air New Zealand DC-10 plane crashed into Antarctica’s Mt Erebus, killing all 257 passengers and crew. The last recorded sound from the plane before the crash was a “whoop whoop” warning sound. Ms Holtham said the airline’s choice of words was insensitive,

To me it is a matter of intent.

I have a hard time believing that the ad exes had the plane crash in mind when the ad was first proposed. Depending of the age of those involved with the ad's production, some of the folks may not have been old enough, let alone alive yet, to remember that plane crash. If they are in their late twenties, the 'whoop whoop' sound is associated with people having a good time at a party.
