Australian book burner faces inquiry from employer QUT over Bible, Koran video

He could lose his job but being an atheist might save him
"A lawyer who videoed himself smoking what appeared to be joints made with pages from the Bible and the Koran will have to explain himself to his employer.

In the video, posted on YouTube, Alex Stewart compares cigarettes made with pages from the two holy texts. In the clip, titled “Bible or Koran - which burns best?”, the professed atheist says burning religious books is no big deal and people need to get over it.

But his employer, the Queensland University of Technology, may have a different perspective. The university today issued a statement confirming the man in the clip is a staff member and would be asked to explain himself. “QUT is tolerant of all religions and does not condone damage to any religious artefacts,” QUT registrar Dr Carol Dickenson said.

Mr Stewart has told The Courier-Mail the video was a joke and he does not do drugs. The green substance used in the video was actually grass clippings, he said. He defended the stunt, saying basic freedoms, such as freedom of speech, should not be threatened simply because someone might be offended.

Another case of tolerating everyone but the intolerant, unless the intolerant are those backwards followers of Mohammed. If he had just burned pages from the Bible, he'd have been fine.

I wonder how he'll feel when someone starts burning atheists.

If he'd just burned pages from the Bible no one would have noticed.
The Chancellor of QUT described it as burning religious artifacts. Really? How many religious artifacts where printed last year? The words in the books could perhaps be misconstrued as religious artifacts but not the books. Who is the bigger idiot the guy pulling the stunt or the cowed head of QUT who is afraid of Mohammed’s devils? Who’s afraid of the big bad muslim?
One can only hope that the heads roll from the top at the next QUT board meeting.
BTW mainstream muslims will riot at the drop of a hat as can be seen on any footage from the Islamic countries. No cause needed; have tyres, will burn. American flags going cheap.
When will the Christian countries put on a display of dissatisfaction like the Arab world? Mute support for floggings and stoning does not bode well in the UN when piss weak protests are made. The Western Alliance needs to find its balls and stand up and be counted. Russia is a lost cause that will look to the west when the shit hits the fan. Tough choice given how many times Putin has pissed on us. I hope he likes eating camel. Maybe he can ask ‘is lamb?’

Dumb religions - where mere modern paper products become sacred artifacts!

One of the many, many facts the west doesn't seem to understand about Islam, or cares not to understand, is that they view tolerance and negotiation as signs of weakness. And in the middle east, weakness begets aggression.

Of course, his behaviour was offensive - to both Christians and Muslims. It was also childish, and not worth making an issue of. But what has it got to do with his employer? Unless he actually put himself forward as a representative of the QUT, what has it got to do with them?

His behavior was not offensive to Christians, there is nothing special about a bible which is merely a book. Now were he to READ it instead of burn it and misuse what he read then he would be violating the Word of God and that would be offensive.
