Must not say that homosexuality is a health hazard
Even though it undoubtedly is. Almost all cases of AIDS in Australia are among the cheerful fraternity
PRIME Minister Julia Gillard will boycott the annual conference of a major Christian group because of its "heartless" attitude towards homosexuals.
Ms Gillard was to have given the keynote address to the Australian Christian Lobby next month but today cancelled her appearance.
She accused ACL managing director Jim Wallace of offensive comments Wednesday when he compared gay marriage with the health risks of smoking. Mr Wallace repeated his comments in a statement today.
The Prime Minister has said she opposes gay marriage but today took the significant step of defending those who are agitating for law changes to allow it. In political terms the Prime Minister was ensuring she did not lose the influential gay vote in inner city areas.
"There is a range of deeply held views in the community on the issue of same-sex marriage but it is the responsibility of all parties in this debate to be respectful and responsible in any public comments they make," the Prime Minister said today in a statement.
"I believe yesterday's comments by Jim Wallace were offensive. To compare the health effects of smoking cigarettes with the many struggles gay and lesbian Australians endure in contemporary society is heartless and wrong.
Mr Wallace, who is also a former head of the SAS, made his comments during a debate on gay marriage with Greens Leader Christine Milne in Hobart yesterday.
"I think we're going to owe smokers a big apology when the homosexual community's own statistics for its health - which it presents when it wants more money for health - are that is has higher rates of drug-taking, of suicide, it has the life of a male reduced by up to 20 years," Mr Wallace said. "The life of smokers is reduced by something like seven to 10 years and yet we tell all our kids at school they shouldn't smoke.

Hopefully the soon to be ex PM of Australia will call an early election where she will be held accountable for her mistruths, untruths (lies) and half truths that she has inflicted on the Australian population since she managed to cobble together a minority government, thanks to three independents who will not be reelected due to their prostitution of the political system. The fact the the PM chooses to side with the gay lobby even though she professes her religion speaks volumes to voters. This woman cannot be trusted, her word is not her bond and she will destroy anyone who exposes who she really is. On that basis it puts Australia in the same league as the USA in looking for political leadership that is sadly lacking in the current electoral term.
Apart from Australian politics, some of the comments in the reported item were ridiculous. Even citing drug-abuse and suicide as a health-risk for gays, when the cause is mainly because of prejudice from hostile main-stream society throughout their lives including their own families, which is bound to have a deleterious affect on a young person's self-worth.
As for a promiscuous lifestyle, surely that is also encouraged by main-stream society for not offering the opportunity of a legally recognized marriage, which would at least diminish promiscuity, or at least as much as heterosexuals in their marriages these days. The whole thing smacks of hypocracy and "holier-than-thou-ism"

While the Health 24 article suggested that homosexuals may be pushed to substance abuse and suicide because of anti-homosexual cultural and family pressures, empirical tests have shown that there is no difference in homosexual health risk depending on the level of tolerance in a particular environment. Homosexuals in the United States and Denmark - the latter of which is acknowledged to be highly tolerant of homosexuality - both die on average in their early 50’s, or in their 40’s if AIDS is the cause of death. The average age for all residents in either country ranges from the mid-to-upper-70s.

An Open Secret: The Truth About Gay Male Couples
When McWhirter and Mattison published The Male Couple in 1984, their study was undertaken to disprove the reputation that gay male relationships do not last. The authors themselves were a homosexual couple, one a psychiatrist, the other a psychologist. After much searching they were able to locate 156 male couples in relationships that had lasted from 1 to 37 years. Two-thirds of the respondents had entered the relationship with either the implicit or the explicit expectation of sexual fidelity.
The results of their study show that of those 156 couples, only seven had been able to maintain sexual fidelity. Furthermore, of those seven couples, none had been together more than 5 years. In other words, the researchers were unable to find a single male couple that was able to maintain sexual fidelity for more than five years. They reported:
"The expectation for outside sexual activity was the rule for male couples and the exception for heterosexuals. Heterosexual couples lived with some expectation that their relationships were to last “until death do us part,” whereas gay couples wondered if their relationships could survive." (p.3)
McWhirter and Mattison admit that sexual activity outside the relationship often raises issues of trust, self-esteem, and dependency. However, they believe that
“the single most important factor that keeps couples together past the ten-year mark is the lack of possessiveness they feel. Many couples learn very early in their relationship that ownership of each other sexually can become the greatest internal threat to their staying together." (p. 256)
Both sites mentioned above are right wing anti-Gay, anti-anything but "family" sources of propaganda. Fair and Balanced, hardly.

For the record, your unsubstantiated assertion is a well known logical fallacy, which in simple terms means it's broken, faulty, illogical, irrational, looney, cracked, useless, as lively as a rock, an argument lead balloon, as effective at countering actual evidence as a gas filled squirt gun at putting out a fire. By all means, if you would like to continue proving just how "rational" the pro-homosexual side is, please continue to use your tissue paper comeback.

Denmark as a country is not universally liberal to gays as Luke or his source suggests. It may be in the main cities and amongst some in the educated "elite", but most of Denmark is rural and small-town where traditional attitudes persist, and why most gays now gravitate to the capital, Copenhagen.
When divorce rates in heterosexual marriage in most western countries are about 50%, and "cheating" is common, it is totally hypocritical to "throw stones" at gay relationships and point to how long any small sample of them may have lasted.

So hiding the truth and avoiding telling people painful truths is the way to avoid being "heartless"? So we are not supposed to point out to people that their behavior might kill them? The comment mentioning smoking was right on the money. The government here in the US spends millions (most of it forcefully taken from the tobacco industry) to warn the public about tobacco. Yet govt continues to push the gay lifestyle as a normal safe "alternative".
