Adrian Smith, a Christian, was found guilty of gross misconduct by his publicly funded housing association for saying that allowing gay weddings in churches was ‘an equality too far’.
He posted the comment in his own time, on his personal page on the Facebook website, which could not be read by the general public.
But after a disciplinary hearing, he was downgraded from his £35,000-a-year managerial job to a much less senior £21,000 post – and avoided the sack only because of his long service.
Campaigners attacked the housing association’s decision – the latest in a series of cases in which Christians have clashed with employers – as a ‘complete over-reaction’ by an organisation ‘drenched in political correctness’.
Lawyers for Mr Smith, whom friends describe as affable and non-confrontational, say his comments were merely expressing an ‘honest belief’ based on his Christian faith.

Here is a true case of someone being punished for his faith. On his own time, on his Facebook page open only to his friends, he simply stated his opinion. And for that, he is punished! If that ain't religious intolerance, I don't know what is.
BTW, makes you wonder which of his 'friends' ratted him out.
Yes, clearly his "friends" must have done that for it to become common knowledge! But again it's so foolish to express negative views about other people if you are not prepared to go all the way with it; anymore than you might say something negative about an ethnic or political group.
As has so often been said here - freedom of speech has consequences!
Bird Brain : Guess you'd better not go anywhere near England if such a god as you imagine might display his wrath in such a way. But if you really think that it's at all likely that this god still meets out such Old Testament genocide, you'd better check if all your neighbors are behaving themselves or else you'd better go and live in the wilderness to hopefully avoid the fate of another Sod & Gam!

From my understanding he did not express any negative view at any person or people. He appears to have only expressed his dislike for a law that forces churches to perform gay marriages. Most churches have beleifs against homosexuality and it is wrong to force them to do something in direct contridiction to their faith.
Anon 3:01,...... the whole point of Freedom of Speech is that it doesn't have consequences, unless inciting a crime or violence.
Sadly, the Brits are now even more addicted to political correctness than we here in the US, as hard as that may be to believe. PC was created to replace truth and honest opinion, two things the Left hates. For a people, any people, to become so addicted to PC simply shows not only a national weakness, but a moral decay.

4:30 AM - if you read the background, there is no law in the UK forcing churches to perform gay marriages or civil ceremonies. There may be one proposed to allow them to voluntarily conduct legal partnerships, but that's not the same thing as *forcing* them (and it's not the same as legal marriage anyway).
What has this to do with his employment?
There is no law that requires every employee to subscribe to every opinion of their emplyer.
Is this relevant to his work capacity? No.
Is this relevant to his work conduct? No.
This is obviously a case of unfair dismissal. Good luck to him - I hope he gets a big payout and reinstatement.
