We read:
"The Freedom From Religion Foundation, America’s largest organization of atheists and agnostics, continues to use the legal system to purge the nation of references and symbols related to faith and religion
In one of the foundation’s latest assaults on faith, FFRF is demanding that the town of Whiteville, Tennessee, remove a cross that stands at the top of a local water tower. The atheist group first requested that the cross be taken down last December, citing a citizen who is uncomfortable with its presence.
Bellar harshly responded to the atheists‘ and agnostics’ claims, saying, “They’re the terrorists. It’s not us…It will be a shallow victory for them if they win.”
“Whiteville is a religious town. I’m just sorry we have one individual here who is offended by this. I just think it’s a sad day when people in a small rural Western Tennessee town like Whiteville have to be the object of attention for non-believers.”
Despite his opposition to FFRF, Bellar has decided that the cross will be taken down and moved, as the town cannot afford to battle the organization in the courts.
While this is certainly the downside for those who support its presence, the mayor has announced that the cross will be placed on private property on a local highway. It is here, he says, that the cross will actually be seen by an even larger audience.

Once again, we see those who claim they don't want the religious beliefs of others "forced" upon them, forcing their beliefs on others.
The people of this small town should realize they have a solution to the never-ending attacks by atheists. All they need are some strong ropes and tall trees. Problem solved.
The non-presence of something is not forcing anything on anybody - that's the whole point.
However, if a majority of the citizens of the town had an official referendum to have or not have the cross on a public structure in their town, then the result of the vote would have some weight.
2:03 AM seems to draw his views from the KKK.
It is too bad that religious people cannot keep the religion to themselves. They can be as religious as the want but follow St Augustine's advice and be modest and humble. A modest and humble person would not want to display themselves or their religion.
It is too bad that the unbelievers will not follow Jesus' words"take up your cross and follow me".
The town should have put a crescent mpoon and a star. the wackos would have been too scsred to remove it.
Time to demand the FREEDOM FROM RELIGHION COALTION to apploigise and disband itself
What’s next for this little town? Someone uncomfortable with the word:”white” in the town name making them change it to “Diverseville”?
Darn self centred athiets They need a out of body experiance and a glips of hell to know that poppycock out of them
The town could always create a sign on the side of the tower. The sign would consist of a grid of squares, one per citizen.
Each person could then decide for him- or her- self what color to paint their individual square, and no individual could be forced to paint their square any color other than what they freely choose.
Those who do not bother to choose - presumably because they don't care - would have a choice made in their stead by a civic official, but they could always change it the next time the sign was being repainted.
Problem solved.
Sell the tower to a private individual, contract the deed to allow the use of the now private water tower for city water. Then the cross can stay on the private tower.
I think the private owner of the new location of the cross should also put up a sign that says, "Whiteville welcomes you, God Bless."
@1:06- And the owner of the private property would be well within his rights to do so.
Because it's HIS land.
The municipal water tower is OUR land.
You don't get to have your invisible friend on OUR land because not all of us like him. Or we like some other invisible friend. Or we don't like any of them. Lots of people on this board would flip out if a Muslim or Hebrew symbol were erected on public property.
I have a new plan. From now on whenever I hear of a public official around here advocating for something Christian, I'm just gonna file a lawsuit demanding equal time/space/whatever for the Satanist viewpoint/opinion/symbol. Not like y'all can claim you don't believe in the devil after all...
Anon 3:22 - Let's see if we can get this straight. Your idea of freedom of religion means that if you don't like a sign it can't be on public property? Okay, we'll play that game. I don't like the signs the protesters on Wall Street are displaying. Please have them removed from that piece of public property because I don't like them.
@5:12 Apples and Oranges, pal.
For every athiest hung they should put up another cross at the bottom of the water tower. That'll stop em.
Fool #1:
"Leave it a right winger to advocate murder..."
Justice is not murder.

"Jon, are you going to allow threats of murder on this blog?"
An opinion is not a threat.
