Tyra Banks, who is currently campaigning with Special K to ban 'fat talk' and promote positive body image, has admitted that the label 'plus-size' is harmful to women.
The 40-year-old supermodel and America's Top Model judge, who uses the term 'fiercely real' instead, told Huffington Post Style: 'I don't like the label "plus-size".
'I don't want to use the term "plus-size," because, to me, what the hell is that? It just doesn't have a positive connotation to it. I tend to not use it.'

No matter what you call something negative, what you call it will get a negative connotation. You can call them sunshine women and sunshine women will be associated with sexual unattractiveness, and poor health. "Plus size" was an attempt to create a new nice term to replace other terms. The same goes for other undesirable states of being, like the retarded, the sexually deviant, etc etc...

ReplyDeleteThe fashion industry has been bending over backwards to shield women from the reality of their dominant condition in this country. What was a "size 8" fifty years ago is now a "size 4." If a woman truly gets into the "plus size" clothing, it's because she's taken "Rubenesque" to a new level.
