NY: Case puts N-word use among blacks on trial

"In a case that gave a legal airing to the debate over use of the N-word among blacks, a federal jury has rejected a black manager's argument that it was a term of love and endearment when he aimed it at a black employee.

Jurors were weighing punitive damages Tuesday after finding last week that the manager's four-minute rant was hostile and discriminatory, and awarding $250,000 in compensatory damages."

    And so does this mean that US posters here will stop criticizing the UK for PC-related punishment of free speech, when it patently goes on in the US? Probably not as Americans are so hypocritical (or at least many of them here!).

    If it's "offensive" for whites to say it why is it a term of "love" when blacks say it?

    If it's a "racist" word it's a racist word, no matter who sys it!

    Time to end the double standard!

    my children never heard the word 'nigger' and never would have except to hear a black person use it.

    Anon 3:56, I can second that! I'm 50 now and my parents would have smacked me if I used that word. Blacks are the reason the word is still in use.
