Patriotic grill incorrect?After rocketing to victory in the 400m individual medley on Saturday, leaving Michael Phelps and his other competitors in his wake and taking the USs first gold medal, Lochte slipped a diamond-encrusted mouth guard over his teeth for the presentation ceremony.
But the guard in red, blue and white stripes did not go down well with London officials who told him he'd have to remove it or he wouldn't be able to collect his gold medal.
While Lochte obeyed the demands of London officials and removed the mouth guard, he had the last laugh.
He kept it in his pocket until after the national anthem and popped it back in, posing for the cameras with his newly minted mouth-guard.
SourceThe ban would have been part of the ban on logos of non-sponsors at the games. But the USA is not a company. Are they going to ban Old Glory too?
By the way, it seems that grills originated among blacks. They saw the braces that middle class children often wear on their teeth as part of orthodontic (teeth straightening) treatment and saw that as prestigious.
Lochte may be a good swimmer, but he seems like a douche.

Not a problem for us at all. After all, it was US who defeated him. All the Brits could was was what they always do, surrender.

ReplyDeleteThey're more likely to ban the Union Jack than Old Glory. They'd also have more success in banning their own symbols of patriotism. Just be glad he wasn't foolish enough to flash something like the St George flag, or the PC bureaucrats would have locked him up and thrown away the key.

ReplyDelete"PC nonsense" came from the US in the first place - another part of US reverse colonialism that the UK has had to put up with for US "help" in WWII (and the war-loans had to be repaid to the US up the 1980s, even though the aftermath of WWII gave the US a whole new market in western europe and its former colonies around the world).
