Culture = race???
Republicans have sprung to the defence of Mitt Romney after the presidential candidate was accused of 'racism' over remarks made in Jerusalem this morning.
The former Massachusetts governor told a breakfast fundraiser in Jerusalem that the success of Israel was down to the country's 'culture' - by contrast to their Arab neighbours - and the 'hand of providence.'
His comments this morning were immediately labelled racist by Palestinians who argued that their economy was affected by the inability to freely move goods and services over decades of conflict with Israel.
Even some Jews criticised Romney - saying the remarks played into an anti-Semitic stereotype.
Romney arrived in Poland on Monday on the third and final leg of a tour aimed at burnishing his foreign policy credentials and demonstrating that he would be a viable alternative to President Barack Obama on the world stage.

Come to Australia and be sued for commenting that a person looks caucasion when they are actually by law to be deemed aboriginal, percentage of dilution doesn't matter. Biggest rort going, no wonder boat people want a some of the action.
ReplyDeleteRomney is a socialist. Romneycare in Massachusetts is evidence of that.
ReplyDeleteTruth hurts sometimes. When you entire cultural identity involves jihad, the destruction of Israel, and teaching your kids to become suicide bombers it's hard to be successful economically.
ReplyDeleteBetter to get a warning about a would-be President's (un)diplomatic performance as a "world leader", first criticizing the London Olympics when in London, then these remarks when going on to Israel, and so it'll be interesting what he'll say in Poland (maybe that Catholics aren't real Christians)! And these are US allies! How to lose friends and annoy people!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately for liberals, Romney's comments about security at the London Olympics were 100% true and accurate. Their sloppy dealing with a private security company, and their failure to even check the backgrounds of those hired is why they had to bring in 17K of their military troops
ReplyDeleteIt was Romney's "factual" response that embarrassed the Brits. That, and their own ineptitude. But at least he doesn't go around bowing to every leader he meets.
3:29 - Poland cheered Romney and he was endorsed by their hero Walesa. Obama insulted them. FACT
ReplyDeletePalestinians who argued that their economy was affected by the inability to freely move goods and services over decades of conflict with Israel.
ReplyDeleteWell now, whose fault is that. Every time Israel lowers their guard to try and make peace they get attacked. The Palestinian's lot is their own fault.
"Romney was endorsed by their hero Walesa"
ReplyDeleteSo now Romney is getting cozy with big labor. This guy is more liberal than Obummer.
Father, please forgive Bird of Paradise. For he knows what he speaketh.
ReplyDelete5:53 AM - the point was not that he may have got some "facts" right, but that he voiced it in such an undimplomatic way on his very first foreign trip to impress his allies and others that he is a credible leader of the so-called free world. Maybe he had finally learned the lesson (rather late) by the time he landed in Poland!
ReplyDeleteRomney just got his "facts" from the always-negative opinions of some popular UK tabloids and media outlets, much like many posters here.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't matter if all the coal in Britain turned into diamond, the tabloids would still find many down-sides to the consequences.
(NB. the Brits have gotten well beyond the US's level of mindless chauvinism, as they are farther along the road of imperialist history!).
To understand the power of culture, take a look at Detroit, MI.
