I sure wish we could convince you to come with us when this is all over!

He's either a closet Christian or else he's very condescending or a Poe!

Thank you Jon, and a merry Christmas to you too. We in the UK are not quite there yet, we have just got back from a wonderful Christmas Eve children's service. Keep up the good work. I am a Christian and a regular reader of your blogs.

You are a classy guy - if only everyone could accept others as you do.

  11. It is a Merry Christmas.

And despite what anyone of any faith or non-faith may personally believe, Christmas is and remains an historical celebration like historical celebrations throughout the world. One can deny the divinity of Jesus or the "validity" of Christianity, but it doesn't diminish that fact that the celebration of Christmas is real and world-wide.

So thank you Jon, for a kind sentiment.

  12. Oh, and for the militant Atheists out there, just remember that if the Mayans are correct, this will be the last Christmas you will have to endure.

Only the phoney religious parts of the so-called Christmas season are trite and hypocritical. The commercial part is also tedious, but the festivities can be enjoyable and family get-togethers (if you like your relatives!).

    Thank you Jon!

Though it's a little late for Christmas, still…

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family!

" if the Mayans are correct, this will be the last Christmas you will have to endure."

Wow, you were able to combine two myths in one sentence. Congrats!

At one time celebrating christmas was a crime in this nation

Probably for the same reason it was banned in Britain under the Puritan religious government of Oliver Cromwell. Several fundamentalist Christian sects today also don't recognize Christmas, like Jehova's Witnesses etc.

jonray is clearly just pandering to his majority christian conservative readers, so he's either not so much an atheist as he claims, or is a cynical manipulator of his main "adoring" audience!
This site was supposed to be just about "freedom of speech", but just ends up as conservative christians echoing their prejudices among each other, with one or two random "heretics" interjecting to make things slightly more interesting, not that the said CC even realize that the comments column would otherwise fizzle out even more quickly!

You have no concept of respecting people who don't share your views?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous4:32 AM

If that is meant to be a question, then yes I do have a concept of respecting people (as people) whether or not I respect their views or character, and there are many views and character traits that I don't respect, as I'm sure is the case with most people who are not simple-minded.

And (for instance)I sure don't respect the views of the Taliban, but maybe they are really nice guys if you get to know them!!!
