Racist model says 'I don't think a white person can determine what's racism'

Saying someone can or cannot do somethimng solely because of their race is a pretty fair definition of racism

Being engaged to indigenous AFL star Lance "Buddy" Franklin has given Jesinta Campbell a rather refreshing view of racism.

The 24-year-old David Jones ambassador appeared on The Today Show, and the topic was how to describe British colonialism in Australia in the 18th century. Should we say they "settled" Australia or "invaded" it?

Jesinta is all on the side of calling a spade a spade, out of respect for the Indigenous Australians who were here before the arrival of white settlers.

"That, for me, is the bottom line," she said. "We were invaded."

"As a white person, it's very easy for me to sit here and say the word invasion doesn't bother me or it does bother me," she said. "But I wasn't the original person on this land in Australia.

"And the same when we talk about racism. I don't think a white person can determine what's racism and what's not, what affects someone and what doesn't affect someone, 'cause it's not our experience."

The former Miss Australia has become known for expressing her strong opinions.

The history of Australia as a country is well known, so it's silly to argue over semantics to make it sound better or worse, or to blame people long dead, especially those who came from a far-away land. To be so judgemental of the past sounds like some deflection tactic to avoid responsibility for current problems.

2:37 Semantics is what it's all about. They definitely are used to deflect responsibility for present problems. After all, if somebody in the distant past caused problems how can we be blamed for the present situation?

Well, good for you. (Except of course, they aren't farmers, they are ranchers which has an important subtle difference than being a farmer.)

Anyway, it is interesting that you support "goons rioting, looting, burning and calling for the murder of cops" as well as threatening the local population of a community as long as it is for a "cause" that you agree with.

BTW - it should be said that the morons and idiots that occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge had members who had exaggerated or fabricated their military service. They are people who use what is commonly called "Stolen Valor" to somehow ramp up their credibility, even though they do so at the expense of other, real veterans. It's good to know that you support them as well.

For the record, I agree with the ranchers in that the rules of grazing and federal land acquisition have gotten way out of hand.

If we are going to say that blacks that burn, riot, protest, occupy, etc are "uncivilized goons," let's say the same thing about a group of white people and call them "uncivilized goons" as well. That was the point of my post.

If Australia was invaded not settled the an earlier High Court ruling on Aboriginal Land Rights has been negated. Also we must mention that the Aboriginals were also invaders and came to Australia in at least three waves pushing earlier waves further south with constant wars between tribes and no common community between them.
