High School Teacher Suspended After Twitter posts

If you've got a job, you must not be make light-hearted comments on Twitter.  The censors are everywhere.  So much for free speech.

The woman was a bit on the raunchy side but so what?  She was making personal comments mostly in her own time for the benefit of her friends.  In all the pix her private parts were covered

A high school math teacher at Overland High School in Aurora, Colorado has been suspended pending an investigation into her less than respectable Twitter account.  According to Colorado’s NBC 9News, 23-year-old Carly McKinney not only posted semi-naked photos of herself, she also joked about drugs and students who are “jailbait” using her Twitter handle @Crunk_Bear.

One post said “Naked. Wet. Stoned.” Another indicated the poster was high while grading papers. An additional post even talks about having marijuana on school property saying, “Watching a drug bust go down in the parking lot. It’s funny cuz I have weed in my car in the staff parking lot.”

A post that seems to be about a student says, “Just got called Ms. McCutie. Points for being clever, however you are still jailbait.”

The school district reiterates that they will investigate the matter, warning teachers that they shouldn’t post anything on social media they wouldn’t post on the chalkboard.

She brags about grading papers while high and having drugs on school property. Looks like the school would be irresponsible if it didn't fire her. If one of my employees bragged about working while high and bringing illegal drugs into the work place I would fire them also.

This isn't being censored - it's old fashioned "getting caught." She's not being investigated for political or issues speech - she's being investigated for admissions that she violates the law on a regular basis, including while performing her employment duties.

Overreach in the extreme here Jon.

I take Jon's comments to mean one should be careful what they post on social sites. If you're getting high on the job or taking illegal substances to the job site, don't talk about it.

His comment, "The censors are everywhere" is true. What is posted on social sites is seen by millions, and anyone of those can act as a censor and bring said post to the attention of authorities - in this case the school.

In many instances free speech has consequenses. In this one the consequence may be an unemployed teacher.

I really like the free speech abuses that this blog exposes, but this isn't one of them. As Stan B notes, this is an extreme overreach.

Here is a teacher who has admitted in public to illegal activity on the job. She has a job as a guide, role model and instructor for youth, and she is engaging in scandalous behavior. Then, she is stupid enough to post about it public.

This case is not about free speech; it is about firing a person who is clearly, criminally, unsuitable for her job.

I'm very pro free speech, but this woman is plain and simply a complete idiot, and deserves whatever repercussions come of it.

Just because you have a right to do it doesn't make it right to do it.

Hello folks,

I would like to apologize for the comments that I have made above. They were totally uncalled for. I will not be commenting here again. So, I guess you have one less liberal to beat up. See ya.

OK... The teacher mentioned "weed in the car"
How freakin' stupid can you be to go public with a statement like that?
And to think that a person with such limited wisdom is teaching children?
Oy Vey!!!!!
